Smile Job Market In Lehigh County (Allentown), Pike County

I'll be retiring in three years. My wife plans to continue working. She currently has a Home Attendant Health Care License. She takes care of senior citizens in the New York City area. Does anyone know how the job market for her field of specialty is? Are home health care attendants in high demand in the Lehigh County, Pike County area. We are considering a move to the Allentown area. But not too sure. I've read mixed opinions of Allentown. Some good, some bad. My co-worker's daughter lives in Allentown. He says it's very nice there. But i guess i have to go there and talk to the local folk for an accurate picture. To make a long story short, my wife wants to continue in the Home Attendant practice if we move to Pennsylvania. Any input would be appreciated. Keep in mind we have three very young children also. Thanks.

Just like anywhere else there is plenty of jobs in the healthcare field. I suppose Allentown is nice depending on where you are. Specifically once you start going west of 12th st. it's pretty good. Actually from 13th to 17th it still is a little dicy particularly around the 15th st area. Once you are past 17th it is very nice. There also are some nice communities on the South and East sides.

The Lehigh Valley is home to a number of great communities. You mentioned that your daughter lives in Allentown. That city is just one of the many choices you'd have. Regarding your wife's profession, you should be aware that Pa. is 2nd only to Florida in the concentration of seniors located here, so presumably there will be numerous opportunities for her. Fortunately, we've also turned the corner on what had been a drain of younger families moving from the area and state. There are more and more opportunities, not only professionally (ie. JOBS) but also socially, for younger residents wanting to stay here. Having grown up here, leaving the state after college, living in several states and travelling throughout the U.S., and returning at 29 (now 47), I can definitively say that this is one of the best areas to live in the country. Good luck.....
