How do you pronounce "Emmaus", it depends on whether you are from the town of Emmaus, or from Middletown Pa. and then it's Emaus st.

Many years ago I was in Middletown Pa. for a parade, and the announcer was also from Middletown so he pronounced the name of the group from the town, like the pronunciation of the street in Middletown. E-Moss. He was yelled at to correct him, but I don't think it sunk in.

Ha ha! I just opened a thread about pronouncing Bethlehem, and I Swear to you I did not see this first!

When we lived in Lehigh County, we said ee-MAY-us, but I remember when my company dispatch moved from Bethlehem to Philly, we got a laugh because they used to say EM-oss.

You should have heard them with Macungie!!

As I recall, both em- and long E were common. The others, not so much. EE-Mouse! Sounds like an exclamation!
