Hello! Our interfaith family includes 2 mommies and one toddler. We are looking to settle down in an area that is diverse or at least open minded, with excellent schools.

When are you moving? march-april 2017
Where are you coming from? Pittsburgh (Squirrel hill) most recently
Why are you moving? new job
Where will you be working? bethlehem
Have you been here yet? yes

Will you buy or rent? buy a house; around $400k

Do you prefer public or private schools? Public. School doesn't have to be "the best" according to ratings, but would like for it to have a good honors program, AP classes in high school, strong community feel, administration that addresses bullying, etc.
Do you have pets? no
Do you want or need a yard? yes
Are you keeping a car? yes
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? quiet street with a business area that has activity

What do you want to be closest to?
Work
Shopping
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.)
Would LOVE to be in walking / biking distance to one of the rail trails
Nightlife
Near Bus stop? Please note that there is NO rail service in the Lehigh Valley.

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood? Prefer diverse area with other families. Safety is important.

Phillies or Mets? Cubs

I think my school district, Southern Lehigh hits all of your wants bettyrubble. You can compare school districts here: Select a County - PA School Performance Profile Saucon Valley and Southern Lehigh are two districts that most people on this forum would mention for an easy Bethlehem commute. I believe that my district has a more robust AP program.

Pretty much any of the suburban school districts will fit your criteria as long as the home is about a ~20 minute commute to Bethlehem (and Bethlehem includes a very large area). My wife goes to downtown Bethlehem a lot (not daily, but during the rush hours) and it's about 20 minutes from the 191 exit off of 22 (there are a few different options). You could live in the NASD or in Bethlehem Township or even Palmer.

Just to add to this vote, here is a map of Saucon Rail Trail, which is in the Southern Lehigh school district in Lehigh County (shaded green). The yellow shaded portion is Saucon Valley school district. While both are good districts, I would lean towards Southern Lehigh all other things being equal.
Saucon Rail Trail

It's an expensive area, but $400K should give you options.

We are also relocating to the LHV area with a toddler and have the same preferences (including Cubbie love). Let me know what you find out!
