I'll add this and then I'll try to shut up about kindergarten and reading. Pennsylvania school districts are self ruled, meaning that there is a wide variety in curriculum. While all schools teach to the Pennsylvania core standards, that's pretty open to interpretation. So while one school district may not expect kids to read at the end of kindergarten, that's not to say that all Pennsylvania schools don't expect that either. New York state (and I think most other states) have much stricter guidelines on following the state standards. If you scan the subject about age to start kindergarten in the Education forum, you'll get several posts with the majority of people siding to not putting a young child in school early. http://www.city-data.com/forum/education/ This article speaks to that expectation from the viewpoint of a Pennsylvania kindergarten teacher: The Reading Rush: What Educators Say About Kindergarten Reading Expectations - NEA Today

I wish I could help you with the neighborhood house search but as I said, we didn't look in Parkland SD.

The worst areas for train noise are going to be Emmaus, Macungie, Alburtis, and the southern half of Lower Macungie Township. While there are some train lines in Upper Macungie around the Rt. 100 industrial park corridor, they are generally spur lines in the industrial areas with infrequent, slow-moving trains that usually don't blow loud horns.

Southside Bethlehem also has trains but sounds like you aren't considering that area anyway.
