We're a couple in our early to mid 30s with no kids. We're in the process of looking at buying a home in NJ but if Phil Murphy wins the Governor election we would rather just move to PA rather then deal with the tax increases, sancuatary state nonsense.

What we are looking for are nice towns, commuting distance to middle of Northern NJ with a variety of good restaurants etc. Any suggestions to look at?

How much time do you want to spend driving each way? What is your price point? The traffic between PA and North Jersey is varies between not too bad - middle of the day or night - to just horrible - anytime between 6 am and 11 am and 3 pm - 8 pm. Figure out your drive time and let us know what areas pop up in Pennsylvania. I am personally not as familiar with the area of the Lehigh Valley that hugs the state line of NJ.

Unless we know how much you want to/can spend and how long of a commute you are willing to tolerate, I don't think we can give you any useful advice.

Commuting from anywhere in PA to the middle of Northern NJ will be awful during normal working hours. I did it for many years.

Young couple in your 30s I would immediately suggest Bethlehem or Allentown, both are thriving now, with restaurants, bars, amenities. Providing more information would definitely be helpful in terms of price points and preferred commute travel time/distance.

If you have not been to Bethlehem, I encourage you to take a day trip and explore, it has tons of charm and is historic. There are many Universities in the area, so it definitely has a youthful vibe.
