Can anyone advise if there is a towpath along the river between Jim Thorpe and Easton, or otherwise comment on ride between the two places? I'm happy to ride on roads if need be but wondered esp about a path. From Easton I understand the Delaware Canal path heads south to New Hope etc...Thanks.

Stillcrass, the section from Easton to New Hope is still heavily damaged from Hurricane Ivan and several subsequent floods. I believe they got money to fix it, but it will take awhile. I just drove down Route 611 next to the canal path last Saturday, and it is completely eroded away in places, unrideable.
From Jim Thorpe, I've ridden down as far as Parryville, but I believe that's where the trail stops. D&L Trail - Wyoming Valley: Part of Pennsylvania's Delaware, Lehigh & Wyoming Valleys (They want to extend down to Lehigh Gap). The White Haven to Jim Thorpe section is really cool too. There is also a trail down river a bit in Walnutport/Slatington. I've also personally ridden the towpath from Easton to Allentown (and the reverse), so there are quite long areas you can ride the path, but you'll have to do some road too. I haven't ridden much since the birth of my daughter in late 2006, so someone correct me if I'm wrong here. |
