Question How is it down in Forks Twp/College Hill?

I want the real scoop, folks. My hubbie and I went to school at Lafayette and graduated about a year ago so I know how beautiful the Hill is and what goes on (don't worry I was NEVER that annoying drunk in the middle of the night!). We are looking at Apartments that are listed as being on college hill, on George Street supposedly but I've looked at the road on satellite maps online and it looks like Forks Twp. to me. It is very close to the Giant. I've only ever passed through there during school to go grocery shopping, Metzger Fields, etc. so I don't know much detail about the area. We are currently living in the Poconos and I do not feel safe enough to even go for a jog. My husband works and it seems that Forks is still within reasonable commuting distance to where he works in NJ. It may add on 15-20 minutes, but if it means for a safer location (and cheaper rent, amazingly) we will most likely go for it. The hiring process for the jobs I want also begins after May 31 and most of the positions are in Northampton. We already did a rough number crunch for moving vs. staying where we are now. The results were surprising, and if I get a job soon it is even more motivation for us to say ta-ta to the Burg's, creepy Walmart, etc. It's a shame b/c one year ago we were so excited to move here and live in the beauty of the mountains but the "scum" that has infiltrated is forcing us good folks out. I really like our town but we have to go to Eburg/Sburg for all our shopping and such and I barely walked two blocks on main street S'burg before feeling like I was in the wrong part of NYC for a girl like me.

The main criteria I'm looking for are:
- Safe places to go running.
- Police presence (I NEVER see cars here, I think our town has one old caprice and I see that more than I see anything in the bad parts of the burgs).
- No flooding on George St, right?? Can't tell the topography from the satellite imagery, I know the Bushkill Creek is nearby.

I think that's about it. Hopefully we will not run into any hidden surprises like we did when we moved to the Poconos just under a year ago... There's no "bloods" and "crips" right? B/c apparently they are here in NEPA!

Unfortunately, it's in lots of places and yes the "bloods" and "crips" are in Easton. I don't live there so I leave it up to those that live in Forks/College Hill to comment on whether or not they are affected by it. I do know the crime is bad in South Side and downtown.

My daughter lives in Forks and loves it. Loves the neighborhood and how easy it is to get to shopping locations. She likes the schools and enjoys the easy access to NJ.
She was a bit upset last week when a small car drove into their area and the two in the front had red bandanas.....It took a quick turn and left.
However, go to any state on here and you will read about gangs and crime..........it is all over America and is a big problem nationwide.
Everyone in Forks still go jogging and riding their bikes, it feels safe enough.
There is some bike and jogging paths also.........
There are some new apartments/townhomes across from the brand NEW Giant store.
If they are those, then they are not in the flood area.
Forks has its own police force, and just built a very big, and inviting building. ( oh, my, did I say invitinig..........)

I shop at that Giant, and my daughter goes to school almost across the street. I admit to not being there at night (I live just south of Easton-proper) but I just can't imagine anyone feeling unsafe in that immediate area - the brand new police compound is just a few buildings away. It's got many new developments, seems well-kept, very open.

Really, I wouldn't stroll through downtown Easton at night, but other than that, the overall area feels pretty safe to me - especially with the college being between you and downtown. Towns are usually pretty careful about keeping their imported college kids safe, kwim?
