Default Relocating from VA - can someone tell me about Hellertown

My wife and I are relocating to PA for my work. We are interested in the Bethlehem area and have seen a few houses that looked good on websites in Hellertown.

Can someone give me an idea of what Hellertown is like and is there city cable there.

This is a recent thread which ended up discussing Hellertown. http://www.city-data.com/forum/lehig...-advise-3.html

We, too, looked at houses in Hellertown when we moved from VA. What region are you moving from? Maybe we can compare it to a VA town for you.

By city cable I am assuming you mean cable tv services, and the answer is yes.

We are moving from Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. Another area we are looking at is Bath. We are looking for something not in the city - where we can hear crickets at night.

Another question is how busy are Route 512 and 987 in Bath?

Where is your new employment located and how long a commute would you be comfortable with?

512 and 987 are not busy roads. The ones you don't want to be close to are 78 and 378. I think Hellertown is a nice small town and it has a great location. Bath is in a more rural location, not a bad thing, but further away from shopping and things to do.

I will be working in Easton, I am only looking for a 20 or less minute commute.

I was looking on Microsoft Virtual Earth at Bath, PA and noticed that there is a large apartment/condo looking developement being built on Route 512 near Sleepy Hollow Rd just north of Bath. Does anyone know what it is or have any info as to if it is a Condo developement and if so what they are selling for?

Thanks everyone for all the info so far!

That development is called the Bath View Condominiums. A 2 bed/1.5 bath is selling for $202,000. Depending on where you will be working in Easton, Bath is right about 20 minutes to Easton (if there's not a lot of traffic on 248). Have you considered Nazareth? I don't know if there's any new townhomes/condos being built, but I think it's similar to Hellertown in that it's a nice small town that's still close to the main highways and shopping, not quite as rural as Bath.

....sometimes I'm just too quick with the reply button. If you're looking for a condo in a more rural setting, there is a development called Country Classics at Morgan Hill (they have a website). It's located in Williams Township and they have some great views of the Lehigh Valley.

My college roommate was from Hellertown; It's a nice sleepy little town, though I think sprawl is starting to chew away at the rural atmosphere there bigtime, Lower Saucon\Upper Saucon seeing lots of growth. However, despite that, Hellertown Boro maintains a small town, country feel, virtually no crime, good schools, access to main roads is quick.
