HELP! Yesterday I saw a spider crawling along the floor of my apartment. I whacked it with a book. My spouse came out to look at it and immediately identified it as a Brown Recluse. Internet searches confirmed his suspicion.
HELP! We are both freaked out. At the moment he is sleeping with tissues in his ears because he is so scared of the spider crawling in his ear. I am scared too. I hear they kill people or cause massive, disfiguring scars, damage internal organs. We are moving to sunny Florida in six days. God help us.
1. I read that B.R.s live in woodpiles and under decks. That morning I had propped the door to the deck open for 15 minutes moving furniture in. My man theorizes the recluse crawled in during this time.
2. My mom says the B.R. may have come from inside the building. It's a 20 year old structure, well-maintained, managed. We've never seen a spider before much less a B.R. Does this creature usually live independently or in pairs or in a nest?
3. We live in the region of the U.S. where the B.R. is supposedly deadly. Is it deadly? We are both really upset about this. We don't even want to live in the apartment 6 more nights. (We are both neurotics, BTW).
PLEASE! someone help us. What do we do? Should we be scared? Meticulously, we have checked every nook and cranny of the apartment for another B.R. We are good people and we just want to live! Please send me a PM with any advice!
Thank you,
BJS
