Just curious the going rate for in home daycare around here. Where I moved from it cost approx. $75/day...avg. $10/hr...which is what my neice in Bethlehem is paid as a 15 yr old watching neighborhood kids at night/weekends.

I currently pay $25/day, or 500 a month. I will be raising that in the next few weeks, but I don't know how much to raise it to.

One of the things I was most suprised with moving from Jersey was the price of daycare. I have a 2 year old, and on average f/t in Jersey was $300/wk! I now pay $160/wk in Bath, PA, (but that's an actual daycare). I've seen that on average an in home daycare runs from $120 - $160 wk.

Hi! I am actually in the Boyertown/Oley area and am an in home provider of daycare. My rates are $3/$4 an hour depending on hours, age, etc. I think this is very fair. Childcare is hard work. Do you think my rates are too high. Since moving to this area, I've had a hard time finding children to watch. Any suggestions?

Nope........not if you are good. $4 is good. Here in Bucks..I've pay $10 for a sitter. $4 is for daycare with many kids...depending on the age.. Just an FYI/point of referrence.

Hiya -

I have never paid for consistent child care on a per hour basis. I pay by the week so as a parent - single parent to boot. I screen prices by week first. Then I check out offerings. I am more than willing to pay if there is a great relationship and decent accomodations for my son.

I do not know where boyertown is (I am in allentown) but location plays a part in where I look. My son's current home day care is right down the street.

As far as getting clients, get on people's lists with keystone stars sites and carebridge -- they have databases they tap when people use them for child care searches.

Hope that helps!

In central NJ, I paid $8/hr for in home childcare - one woman, 4 kids. Worth every penny and then some.

I personally think $4 is a steal, but then, rates have to be in line with local salaries.

Wow...no...I think it is too low. As I said...we were getting $10/hr. Watching children is not only a lot of work but a lot of responsibility. I am shocked at ads that suggested meals are included for that cost...how is this possible???

Daycare is different then regular babysitting jobs. My daughter often got $10 an hour for babysitting but when she worked at a daycare she was only paid minimum wage. This is one job where the local wages are going to set the amount that people will pay. If someone is earning $15 an hour, it's not practical to pay someone $10 an hour to watch their child. JMO
