Is There a Waterfall in Easton?
I was doing a bit of poking around on Google Earth to see what Easton is like after speaking positively to another member who is in the process of closing on a home there, and at the juncture of the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers I'm seeing what appears to be a waterfall or a dam. Is this accurate? If that really is a waterfall, then why hasn't the city capitalized upon that natural asset in order to help spawn revitalization in the adjacent downtown? Up here in NEPA Wilkes-Barre will be unveiling its massive new riverfront project with a walkway, gardens, sculptures, amphitheater, boat launch, etc. in Spring 2009. It is expected to link the downtown area to the waterfront and further contribute to the city's recent incredible resurgence. Why can't Easton do the same?

I wouldn't call it a waterfall. It's only about a 6 foot drop, very steady over a straight surface. Definitely not a draw for tourists.

Thanks for the quick reply. MSN Virtual Earth is much better than Google Earth, and thanks to that I can now see that it's not exactly the potential "tourist draw" that I thought it could be.

it's a dam... there is a park next to it, and they do have a lot of events right next to it. I was down there for the lehigh valley brewfest. One of my hobbies is biking around the valley taking photos.. so here you go:

While I'm at it.. there's a dam a little up river near Hugh Moore park locally called "Chain Dam". The official name of this dam is "Glendon Dam" or Dam 8. Its main function is to allow for recreational boating upstream. It's also along the bike path (tow path):

You can see the waterfall as you cross the "free" bridge. ( There are two bridges that cross the Delaware in Easton). The "free" bridge has been restored, and is quite beautiful, especially at night.
