If you do a google search with the key words, "Crime rate, Allentown PA" you'll come up with several links, none of which I can post because they are competitor sites. Bottom line - The overall crime rate is not very good.

It's not safe overall. Per capita the crime rate is staggering! We got plenty of murders and everything else. Allentown is loaded with gangs & drugs and plenty of denial. There are alley's in Allentown that scare me more than north philly would. The sad thing is not many years ago those same alley's and streets were great neighborhoods. It's enough to make a grown man cry(a man at the stonewall maybe, lol).

^ I heard many gangs from NYC and Philly are moving into Allentown because of bad policing unlike the good policing they have in NYC and Philly, who have adapted to the gang problem.

It's a very easy place for thugs and lowlifes to go deep cover. The lehigh valley is within 90 minutes of over 10 million people. That makes it very lucrative for gangs.

Lol, I can really relate to this.... used to say that I felt safer in Kensington and actually meant it.

not much worse
A quick look around will tell you that Allentown's crime rate compares with most American cities its size. In fact, crime decreased in Allentown during 2008, for whatever reason. If you know how to live in a city, you will have no problems in the City of Allentown.

Yinz is a term used around western/south western PA not Scranton. I lived there and everyone automatically knew where I was from once I said Yinz. Either your family is from the western side or you are just being a poser, which is it? You might want to be from the burg but we are can't be perfect!
