I can speak of the truth only and I don't live inside a minivan driving around, I've lived here for decades and family before me. These newbies who live in fantasy camps don't understand reality. Ask any of these wanna be soccer moms if they would allow their kids to hang out with a kid from center city and they would rather drop dead. They are the most racist people out there. Anyone that has to say they are "not racist and don't see color" are usually the biggest racist of the bunch.

Maybe if you relocate you could become a webmaster. Then you could give tips to people about the lehigh valley from an outsiders perspective. People online really respect that. It's like a job ya know!

ER,
Frankly, I just don't understand you. You continually bash an area that you have chosen to live and stay in. If you hate the Lehigh Valley so much, why stay? We chose this area because we felt it was the right one for family. I've lived in four other states and and comparatively speaking this is the best I've seen. Wake up and smell the coffee. This is a beautiful area. Yes, there are some rough spots and no, I would not choose to live in either Allentown or Bethlehem but it's fine with me if other people do and I will continue to bring up the good points of the area cities and the area small towns.

I don't drive a mini-van. My kids don't play sports and I have a job. My kids can hang out with whomever they want to - two of them are in their twenties! I'm not sure where you get your assumptions from but you know what they say about assumptions.....

First off my name is Frank. Secondly they are my opinions and I can state those opinions freely. If you don't like my opinions YOU MOVE. I was here first and since you are playing kid games, I WIN! You keep bringing up what you consider to be good points and I'll keep up mine.

Let's get back to the opening post. Please note that the poster is NOT mentioning a concern about racism. Hope they come back!

I think the distance from a city is all a matter of perspective. If you are used to living in a city and understand the problems inherent in cities, then I would consider Bethlehem. If you live now or grew up in a small town then there are many good ones to choose from. Why don't you tell us more about what you are looking for and what your priorities are?

Just to add, I didnt want the post turning in to a race topic, I was just pointing out an observation. Residing in the center of Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton (bad crime), has alot of diversity, I was just pointing out that when you get in to the boonies of upper Mont, Bucks, Berks, & Lehigh, there's alot of racism. Especially Mont & Bucks. When we relocated up here, my son was going in to 8th grade. He dealt with alot of rascist kids, which they get from their parents. Heck, even the local barber told my husband he was moving because of al the *** moving in the area. My husband dropped his jaw. I wont go in to a debate, like I said was just an observation I wanted to make. BTW we are white, so ALOT of comments are made thinking we go with their flow, NOT the case!

BTW, is there a specific area your looking at, workwise? Doylestown is a really nice area, but pricey. Not sure how far down from the upper counties your looking at.

jlawr,
Have you lived in Lehigh County? I'm only asking because it's disturbing to me to hear you say that, "when you get in to the boonies of upper Mont, Bucks, Berks, & Lehigh, there's alot of racism." as if you have lived in all those areas. I've lived in Southern Lehigh County for over 11 years and will only say that I haven't noticed it in my School district. Probably because this district is about 95% white, anyone with a different skin color is just assimilated into the mix. I don't feel qualified to comment about all of Lehigh County or even the other three counties (Delaware, Chester, Montgomery) we've lived in because my kids were pretty young before we moved here. I'm just concerned with a new person looking at this region and thinking that we're all racist when it's not something that I've seen at all.

All of my sons cousins went to Lehigh. They are 1/2 white and 1/2 mexican, and yes, they did put up with alot of comments. As far as where Ive lived, I base my comment on having input from all of my sons friends thru the years. Alls I wanted to post is that there are some areas, ex quakertown, boyertown, pennsburg etc that are very racist and that comes from 1st hand knowledge.
BTW I never said "all racist". Please dont missread my post.

Good post. I'm just trying to understand where you are coming from. Lehigh University, however, is a whole different ball game then the county of Lehigh. Those students are coming in from all over the place and the college itself is in a dense, diverse part of Lehigh County that does not have a good rep for safety. I post on another forum (College Confidential) pretty often and a poster there was quite concerned about his bi-racial daughter attending Lehigh because of some incidents in the fall: Lehigh University president calls meeting in response to post-election racism on campus - News, Weather, Sports &amp Entertainment for Bethlehem, Saucon Valley, Lehigh County & more - lehighvalleylive.com It sounds like the college itself is acknowledging that there is a problem and addressing it. I hope some real change happens.
