yayameyers, I would suggest that you look over the craiglist link that Matt posted. The Craiglist Allentown, covers the Lehigh Valley. Another source for rental is: Real Estate, Homes, New Construction, Mortgages, Classifieds, Newspaper Classifieds from Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and the Lehigh Valley in The Morning Call and mcall.com -- themorningcall.com and Allentown & Vicinity*Pennsylvania Apartment Finder | Search Southeast Pennsylvania Apartment Rental

You might want to check out the smaller older towns like Bangor or Pen Argyl.
A fixer-upper may be available. Bath or Nazareth may have the same but likely will be more expensive. There are quite a few small towns sprinkled in that area--Roseto-Wind Gap--Martin's Creek-Ackermanville--for example. You will give up chic shops and movie theaters but you will gain quiet and fresh air. Petty crime could be an issue but local residents might give more direction about that aspect if you are interested.

hinesmama is on a distinguished road
Someone mentioned craigs list and i have to chime in. Coming from jersey and searching for rentals in the Lehigh Valley, I nearly choked when I saw how cheap some of the rent is for places in decent areas. We pay nearly $1600 a month for a cramped 2nd and 3rd floor, and really need t o move. Please check it out. You may be able to find what you are looking for but you may want to think about tacking on $150 more dollars for more options. Have you looked into Section 8? you don't have to live in a housing development, you may be able to find a landlord that will take your voucher. Just a suggestion....
