Any info about Slatington?
Well...still on a hunt in the Lehigh Valley. I am checking out Slatington and would love to hear the good, bad, and ugly if there is any to be said. I mean the town seems very quaint and quiet. Better schools from what I hear, close to shopping, but I feel like I am missing something. Could be because I am from Jersey, but any feedback about the town/area would be great?

Not sure about better schools compared to the top tiered districts. I'm pretty sure property taxes are high as well. But if your from Jersey, it might not seem so bad. Any particular reason why your looking there...close to work?

Really we are just checking out the Lehigh Valley area in general. Seems to be the easiest route considering where my husband would be commuting to NJ. We need the affordability of PA, and we saw some rental listings in Slatington at very low cost. We've been to Whitehall, Allentown, Bethlehem, and still looking....we are only going to rent for about 2 years and figure out where we would buy (if we even stayed in PA)....we do have kids though and its important that they have a good experience while we are here.

I don't really know much about Slatington, except it's doesn't really have a good school reputation, at least compared to other Lehigh Valley schools closer to Allentown and Bethlehem. I'm sure the elementary is fine but the HS scores are lower then Liberty High School in Bethlehem. Did you look on SchoolMatters - Home ? Actually, the elementary scores are also on the low side, but scores don't mean everything. I would definitely visit the school on a school day before you decide.

Slatington usually gets a bad rap as a mediocre place in terms of housing, schooling, etc. I personally see Slatington as an average town. It is neither a high class place to live, but it also isn't a slum. The people there are very nice & it isn't too far from places to shop (about 30 minutes from Lehigh Valley Mall). Its true that the school district is not top tier like the juggernauts that are Parkland & East Penn, but the education that one would get from there is still very respectable.
If you are checking out the Slatington area, also check out areas in the Northwestern Lehigh School District. It is very similar but a bit more rural, and also a better SD imo.

Wow. I never thought I would be giving input on Slatington. Through a friend, I was lived there for about 5 years off and on back in my teens. What I can tell you from what I remember and from my last visit in 2008. The area is relativity poor. I don’t mean this in an offensive way. Other than you local mom and pop shops, there are no major employers. I can’t recall what the school district was like, but what I can tell you from when I lived there, the dropout rate was pretty high. I would imagine housing is cheap. If your looking to move into a multicultural neighborhood, well Slatington is not your answer. There may still be some deep seeded resentment towards certain ethnic groups. Honestly I wouldn’t invest any time or energy in Slatington nor Walnutport or Palmerton.
