Don't let Lehigh Valley people frighten you about crime in Allentown. I'm often amused by suburban LV folks who talk about Allentown as if it's a horrible crime-ridden slum. These people don't KNOW what a real slum is. It's NOTHING like Newark or Philly. Not even close.

Now, that's not to say you aren't better off outside the city - you are. But I lived down town for a while without any fear whatsoever. But I don't intimidate or frighten easily either.

Smile Yea don't listen to anyone who lived around 10 TH

Yea don't listen to anyone who lived around 10 TH and Walnut/Hamilton STs for 61+ years. What do they know?

I do know this happened yesterday and something violent happens in this area at LEAST once a week.

Last month an innocent young lady was killed at 8 TH and Walnut when a man with a Stolen SUV ran a red light and broadsided her car killing her.

No I don't know anything about this area I just grew up here and lived here for almost 62 years. Our home has been broken into twice, our sons assaulted twice, once requiring medical treatment, all but one of our cars have been broken into since 1974. What do I know?

Last November a thug dropped his gun on 10 TH Street as he ran past our home. I watched the whole thing from our front door.

You better be bi-lingual as well.

One person in custody after man slashed in hand

August 5, 2009

ALLENTOWN

A man was slashed in the hand during a fight Monday afternoon on Walnut Street in Allentown but declined to be treated at a hospital, police said.

Several police cruisers responded in the 900 block of Walnut Street around 2 p.m., and took a juvenile into custody. The boy was involved in the fight, but he is not the person believed to have slashed the victim, police said.

Police searched an apartment building in the area and detained at least two people as they looked for the slasher, described as a male with a white shirt and red shorts, police said.

Thumbs down This is in the Allentown newspaper today, this is now

This is in the Allentown newspaper today, this is now what we have come to expect living in Allentown. This was a lovely section of Allentown. My mother lived in a Seniors Apartment only a couple blocks from here. Her car and others were broken into for their Handicapped Parking Permits. Then the criminals cut the registration tags off the Seniors license plates. Everyone had to purchase a new plate at their cost. Not good for seniors on a fixed income.

My mother was hit and run three times in this neighborhood as well before her death in March.

Police say Allentown man dodges a bullet -- twice
Gun went off during a struggle after man barged into home; accomplice also fired a shot.

August 7, 2009

Allentown police say a man was shot at twice Thursday morning, once by a gunman who barged into his home and demanded money, and a second time by the gunman's accomplice who was waiting outside.
No one was injured in the gunfire at 8:06 a.m. in the 100 block of S. Rush Street, an alley between 15th and Fulton streets, Assistant Chief Ron Manescu said.

Manescu said police were initially called to the home on a report of a shooting and four possible injuries, but received a different story once they arrived.
