Smile Something great to do as a family sometime.

Here is something great to do as a family sometime.

Lehigh Co. has Eight Covered Wooden Bridges within about a 10 Mile drive. Pennsylvania has one of the largest numbers of surviving Wooden Bridges.

After you get settled in your homes you can actually drive to all Eight Bridges in one day, some allow you to drive through them yet.

Later on go back and you can picnic at almost all the Covered Bridge Sites. The Lehigh Parkway has one of the Covered Bridges and plenty of space to picnic and for the children to fish and play. There is a fish hatchery in the Lehigh Parkway and the children can purchase fish food to feed the fish. The fish really jump when you feed them.

Kern's Dam has another GREAT bridge just north of Allentown a mile or so with another picnic area and park. The children can fish there too.

I have to look for the CD I made of photos I took of a number of the local covered bridges. It can be a great experience and lots of fun for you and your families to discover them all. If I find the CD I maybe able to post the photos here. All date back to the 1800's.

Then there is also Hawk Mountain west of Allentown. You can go there and hike up to a GREAT scenic point and watch the birds migrate South and North. It is in Kempton PA. you will find it on the map. Take 78 a short distance and you get off an drive a short distance to Kempton.

Leesport, PA. on Route 61 between Hamburg and Reading has one of the BEST FARMERS MARKETS in the area. Get there early, great fruit, vegetables and prices. Huge Flea market and it is only on Wednesdays. You can spend hours and hours there on a nice sunny day, but much of it is under cover and it can be a good time on a rainy day as well.
