Why doesn't Lexington have crime stats like other cities on this site? Could it be because Lexington has a terrible record in terms of crime? Could this be influenced by interested parties like politicians or other special interest groups? Would very much appreciate uniformity in reporting crime statistics so I can compare crime stats in Lexington, KY to other parts of the country.

What about this one:

Citizen's Crime Watch Home Page

Only works with Internet Explorer & is quite cumbersome... your tax dollars at work.

What crime record and special interest groups are you referring to?

To all those that have an interest in crime stats, you should be reminded that many cities have been officially caught "cookin' the books".

Crimes are not reported at all or the more serious ones are downgraded. Baltimore was caught a number of years ago and it made very enlightening reading on how easy it is for law enforcement to paint a false picture.

I would be more inclined to take an average from the pollyannas and alarmists on this site!

I agree that this is a decent website that doesn't 'cook the books'.

Citizen's Crime Watch Home Page

I'm with other professionals that say the better a police department is the more likely that crime will be reported. There are many reasons that crime isn't reported and not having faith in 'the system' is one way to ensure that crime isn't reported when it occurs. Regardless, stats can be manipulated to meet whatever politician can spin it their way. The best way I have found is to build get in good with the beat officers that are in that area but that takes time and often people want the real-deal without spending any effort to filter thru the data.

Speaking of politics, I've seen signs for county coroner. What platform does one have to run on to elected as the coroner?

Good grief. Lexington is hardly a hotbed of crime. We're often on "top lists" of places to live in the country.... crime is always factored into those types of things. It happens, but it's not out of control or hidden.
