Default Lexington-My Turn

Hi Everyone,

As promised, I wanted to share my experience of Lexington. We just returned from a three week vacation, one of which was spent in Central KY.

Lexington is GREAT! The city has a small town feel with bigger city amenities. Overall we found it clean, safe and easy to get around. Many areas inside the inner circle are historic, charming and neighborhood-ish. It also doesn't take much time to get from one place to the other because of the two main roads that surround the city.

We ate at several wonderful restaurants. Our favorite was the PUB, close to Fayette Mall. Fun English atmosphere and good food. Some other restaurants we enjoyed were the Cheapside Grill downtown and the "Regatta" (I think that's the name) restuarant right by Joseph Beth Booksellers.

The people everwhere we went were extra friendly and helpful. Overall, I didn't get a sense that the people were overly conservative or worried about anyone's religious affiliation. I actually found people on the more mid-western side in how they dressed, "acted," (for lack of a better word,) and spoke. I met some people with a slight accent, and some with no accent at all. Certainly, not as Southern as I had anticipated, but not northern at all either. Very uniquely Lexington.

We loved the Tahoma Terrace/Southern Heights neighborhood. It truly is a wooded "gem" in the middle of the city. The arboretum was a beautiful too. We did take a drive through the northern part of Lexington and know the areas that seem a bit "rough" around the edges.

All in all, we know that this is the town that we will relocate too one day in the not so distant future. For us, Lexington has all that we need.

We LOVE the Arboretum, too. I was also surprised at how NOT Southern it was while NOT being Northern. Interesting sort of place.

We are currently readying our house here to go on the market, and we plan to move to Lex by December!

We returned from Lexington after a trip there in June. Looking for a horse farm to move to. We love it. Great city! You are correct about it not being Southern, yet, not Northern either, it is it's own unique place and the people were lovely. We ate at Dudleys and Portofino, downtown, which we found very good. We are hoping to get there by September, but don't know if that is a realistic goal, moving not only ourselves but many horses. Have to find the right property first.

Best wishes on getting your house sold. We went through that recently too! We are now renting because we aren't quite ready to move to KY yet (although we did buy a house in Lexington already!)

I hope you will keep posting after you relocate. I enjoy reading what others are going through and experiencing. I'll look forward to finding out which school district you wind up in!
