Hello all,
Last month I was looking for TN info...hubby's job didn't pan out.booooo! Now, we are on to Lexington area. Looks like we'll have an offer--please get the prayer chain going. We need to ditch Michigan even though we love our home state. I am looking for infor regarding smaller towns (10,000 or less population), economical housing-need 3bd at least with 1.5ba, decent smaller schools-will have pre-schooler, middle schooler and high school freshman. Commute time=approx 30 +/- mins to north side of Lexington. Also, info on housing market would be a bonus. Can anyone help with price averages? 1400 sq ft 3bd/2ba and I don't want to sound really stupid but are basements common in KY? I know TN was iffy in some areas. Thanks, any help you can provide would be great. We are just looking to make a fresh start in a better economic climate other than our own. Take Care. Laura |

Do you have a price range in mind? The closer you get to Lexington, the higher the prices and (generally) the better the school systems. Going out to some of the more distant counties can drastically reduce your housing costs but also limit your access to Lexington.
Basements are rather iffy in Kentucky. A lot of older homes have them but many newer homes, especially new construction, tend to be on slabs, especially for low-to-moderate priced newer homes. |

Check out Georgetown/Scott Co. I think Georgetown is closer to 15,000, but you could also look out in the county. I've heard Scott Co. has a good school system due to the huge tax revenue generated by Toyota. The drive to north Lexington would be a breeze, 10-25 minutes depending on where you lived in the county. The countryside is very pretty as well, green rolling hills, big trees and horse farms everywhere.
Another very nice area in central Kentucky is Versailles/Woodford Co. There are parts of Woodford Co. that would be 30 minutes or so from north Lexington. It is one of the wealthier counties in Kentucky due the large number of horse farms there. It is very nice though, less than 10,000 and has good schools. The town of Versailles is very charming and the countryside is really nice. The housing values may be a little higher than some parts of Kentucky, but I'm sure it isn't unreasonable. I'm not sure about prices, but a quick search on realtor.com should give you a good feel for the prices in these two towns. nlschr0 is right about basements. You'd have to look at older homes, no smaller new homes have basements. |
