Default Lexington (anyone know if High Ridge Rd is in a good neighborhood)

I am moving to Lexington with my wife. I am an airline pilot for Comair and my wife is an attorney. We have huge educational loans to pay off and as a result have a limited budget. We are looking for a townhome in the 100-110 thousand range and have found one with quite a bit of square footage online off of Pimlico on high ridge rd. I am just curious if anyone can give me some information on this part of town. I imagine it might not be the best because it is almost twice the square footage of any other townhome we have seen online in this price range. I know with the money we won't get everything perfect but I don't want to be out of town and worry about her. Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated. We hear a lot of good things about lexington and can't wait to move there.

I'm not overly familiar with that area.
Do you have a realtor you're working with? They can be very helpful in knowing about particular neighborhoods. If you don't I know several that I could personally recommend (PM me if interested).
I believe you can search crime rates for specific areas on the LFUCG police dept's website.

I'm not familiar with that particular street. You do have to be careful in that general area because it is one of the areas where you might have several nice, family-oriented streets right next to a more run-down area with higher crime. For example, I think that the end of High Ridge backs up to an apartment or rental complex that used to be considered somewhat run down, although it's been a little while since I've been there.

A quick glance at the crime maps don't show a high number of calls for that street, but there are quite a few more for those nearby apartments. There were a few calls about possible burglaries along the street for the past six months.

I think there are better places for the same money. I live very close to this area. While I wouldn't call it bad by any means, I wouldn't want to buy there b/c there is sooooo much rental around. That area has declined over the past several years as owner-occupied units have been bought by investors. Right now there are alot of choices for townhomes in that price range. I would only go the townhome route if 1)you were planning on staying there for a long time, 2)were planning on using it as investment property after you move out, or 3) got one for a crazy good price. I know several people that bought 4-5 years back and now have theirs on the market. They aren't getting the appreciation like a house will. By the time they pay a real estate commission, they will walk with only a few thousand.

It is not such a bad area. It does back up to apartments, so you will have a variety of people around. It is located close to the Richmond road and Hamburg Pavillion area for shopping, which is good. Also, near Man o War blvd and New circle road, two major roads here.

Stay away from the Centre Parkway/Trent Blvd area.
