I'm a home health nurse and use to actually see patients in their home (I sit on my duff in an office now) and have gone into homes in those "seedy" areas. I agree with you 100% - "hilarious" is what I would say as well. Crime happens in Mayberry for pete's sake.... Lexington is hardly a hotbed of crime.

Maybe you know the answer to this easydoesit? Aren't there talks of expanding Man O'War in some way? Also, do you know what the concrete sidewalk appearing thing on New Circle Rd is? I didn't vote for our newest mayor, but he does appear to be tackling traffic as a major issue... which is good of course.
I don't know anything about the Man O' War extension. They talked about expanding Harrodsburg Rd. -- from Palomar to Jessamine Co. -- a LONG time before they did it. Long time as in 8-10 years from I what I recall. We lived to close to it so we heard the stories for years. I don't think it would solve the problem of so many stoplights . Next time drive out to Hamburg via Man O' War from the other side of town and count the # of lights and how often you have to stop.

I don't know about the New Circle thing either. Which part of New Circle is it near? I have been away for a couple of months. I know they have been doing a lot of bike initiative type plans in an attempt to be more like Madison. Since I haven't seen it, I am not sure if that could be the reason behind it. Clays Mill (another route that has become unfit for the amount of travel it receives) is being dug up so bike lanes can be added.

I don't drive to Hamburg... other side of the earth for me! The concrete things are in the middle of New Circle on the section that doesn't have stop lights... it's about as wide as a side walk, but they are built on a tilt that I can't imagine would be safe to walk on or to ride a bike on. I just don't have a clue as to what they could be.

The addition to Harrodsburg road was very much needed... growth is only going to continue out that road. I do think that traffic is moving up as a priority and will continue to be addressed.

Those concrete things have me puzzled though!

The concrete sidewalk-looking things are going to be barriers, from what I've heard. There were too many deadly crashes where people would cross the median and end up headfirst into oncoming lanes of traffic. Supposedly this is going to help prevent some of that. Of course, I could be mistaken but I first heard this from an engineer that works for the city.

And they recently released a "proposal" that a firm made for Lexington traffic. They proposed widening Man O War near Hamburg, converting some intersections to roundabouts, limiting some left-turn lanes, adding emergency shoulders, etc. There are more details here:

BARRIER STOPS OUT-OF-CONTROL VEHICLE

Sat, Aug. 04, 2007
"The new $2.5 million cable barrier system on New Circle Road got its first test yesterday morning, and it passed with flying colors, officials said.

Lexington police said a car went out of control on the inner loop of New Circle between Nicholasville and Tates Creek roads about 6:30 a.m. and entered the highway median, where the cable barrier quickly brought it to a stop.

Officers said that if the barrier had not been in place, the car probably would have crossed into the outer loop, possibly causing a much more serious wreck."

Peggy McNaabb is on a distinguished road
Cynthiana, Ky. is about 40 miles north of Lexington and 60 south of Cincinnati. I'd be glad to assist you find something here or in surrounding counties. I think you'll find our living expenses are somewhat less here than in Lexington. I am a realtor and can be reached at peggy.mcnabb@era.com I'm not sure I understand. Are you Mormon? That doesn't matter to me but I don't think there are any Mormons in this area if that is what you are looking for.
