Versailles vs. Georgetown
Hi! My husband are moving to the Lexington area from Louisville but want to live in either Versailles or Georgetown. So I'd like to ask those in the know, what is your opinion of both towns (schools, nice people, things to do, etc.)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Personally, I would opt for G'town but you are pretty much comparing apples and apples IMO. Why G'town? I like how they support their high school and programs. I think Toyota being there and other Toyota suppliers really help provide a strong base economy and better wealth distribution. Easy commute to Lexington too.

I too would pick Georgetown....the area is nice, it is an easy commute into lexington, and I find the people there friendlier.

Georgetown is bigger, with more amenities (community hospital, private college, more restaurants and shopping options). Versailles is smaller and is probably more scenic because of its many horse farms. Both have good schools - Woodford's (Versailles) tend to rate higher but both rate well.
Georgetown has a strong middle class and farming atmosphere, which are supported by the large presence of Toyota's manufacturing plant and lots of nearby working farms. Versailles also has a solid middle class presence, with nearby working farms, but it also has more influence from the wealthy horse community.
In my personal experience, many people who live in Georgetown are self-contained to Scott County - they live and work in the county and do most of their shopping and socializing in the area. Sometimes they will travel to Lexington for more options, but often they are happy to stay within the area. In Versailles, perhaps because it's smaller, it seems like there are more commuters to Lexington and families that are more active with things in Lexington. For both, you will probably have to venture into Lexington for major shopping or upscale restaurant options. Also, I've noticed more of an outdoors interest in people from Georgetown (hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, etc), although both still have strong influences from the surrounding rural areas.
Either one could be right for you if you're looking for a smaller-town atmosphere than Lexington. It seems like there are usually more housing options available in Georgetown, but there is plenty of variety in Versailles as well. Are you looking for anything specific in your new community?

Question re: Georgetown
We were able to spend a week in the Lex area the end of July, and fell in love with Versailles ....but didn't get a chance to visit G-town. Since we are looking for property/farm to buy, can anyone tell me if the topography is similar there to Versailles? Gently Rolling, or Rolling would work for us!
We found the people/atmosphere in Versailles to be wonderful! But that was only ONE of the places we fell in love with ......
Everywhere we went we found people to be friendly and helpful, willing to answer our un-ending questions! Getting around (in and out of Lex) was easy for us 'foreigners' from Idaho!! ..... we can hardly wait to move to KY!!!
Thanks for any input on G-Town! It is much appreciated.

Hi! Thank you all very much for your input! We're moving from Louisville to be between Louisville and Lexington (for family reasons). As long as the people are friendly, the schools are great, and we can get a bigger home for a decent price, we'll be fine. Take care! Veronica

We just moved to Versailles and really like the area and schools. I think overall that Versailles (Woodford County) schools rank higher, although there are good schools in Scott county too. We came from Iowa, with very high-quality public schools and so far these are very comparable. I am impressed. The Versailles area is beautiful and very convenient to Lexington (perhaps a bit more so than Georgetown, but both are convenient).
The people here are wonderful and very friendly, but that may be (and probably is) true in Georgetown also.
