Ummm, nope. To both of your questions. You won't be "shunned" and there are many Catholics in KY. I've only lived here for six weeks but have met many.

No, you will not be shunned. I don't happen to be Catholic, but know many who are. Here in Lexington......Lexington Catholic is one of the better high schools.

Louisville and Northern KY have really large Catholic populations. There are plenty of Catholics in Lexington as well. The southern part of the state is more part of the bible belt but you wouldn't have problems there either. I am Catholic and was raised in the southern part of KY. Our family was definitely in the minority, but I never felt "shunned".

Considering Louisville is close to 30% Catholic, its demographics are more like a Midwestern city. There is literally a Catholic church in every neighborhood in the city, making for well over 100 in the city alone. There are dozens of Catholic schools and 10 Catholic high schools in the metro area, including heavily Catholic southern Indiana. The Catholic diocese of the "west" actually began in Bardstown, which is just south of Louisville. This region retains a strong Catholic heritage too. Lexington has a much smaller Catholic community, but there are several churches and schools, and Lexingting Catholic is one of the top HS in the region. NKY, as merely a Cincinnati suburb, is strongly Catholic like Cincy.

church and have not had any outward problem with anybody concerning our religion. We live in the heart of Baptist & Holiness religions, & everyone has treated us well. Our Church, St. Paul's in McKee, does an awful lot in helping people of all religions. We regularly have people of all religions attending our church. Decades ago there may have been a problem, but we don't see it here in Jackson County. God Bless. JOE |
