Lots of property just east of Lexington fits your bill too. We have a 4.75 acre parcel of land with a 3BR farmhouse, barn and garage in Winchester, KY just off I-64 at Rt. 60. When we go into town it takes us about 35 mins. of pleasant, non-Kennedy/Tollway 60 mph driving (I'm originally from Chgo.). The area is mature and rural while being close enough to amenities & the city.

(P.S. We *might* be looking to rent our place, if your situation changes I'm happy to discuss - PM me if you like)

I got the job! Wahoo! But it won't start until October 1. Any advice on banks to start talking to? Realtors? I plan on staying at my current job as long as possible. How will it work to apply for a mortgage when there will be a positive change in salary?

How wonderful!! I am very happy for you(and jealous as all get out!)! I have a great RE gal, if you're interested! Knows the horse end of things well, as she rides and has horses herself. She was so patient with us, and extremely helpful!!
As far as banks and lending institutions go, I'm sorta in the same boat as you, so any info we get here may help both of us!

Kris Vanzant with Stockton Mortgage has done dozens of loans for my clients and I use him myself. His office number is (859)963-1171 and email is kvanzant@smcapproved.com. He'll know exactly what to do about the change in jobs. My guess is that an underwriter will just want to see a commitment letter from the new employer.....that's how it seems to work for my out of town buyers when they transfer or take a new job here.

Hey, PONYPULR, you live on Long Island too? I was born in Bay Shore. My family moved in 1975 to Chicago, I was very young then, but I have lots of great memories from visiting my grandparents and aunts and uncles.
