Default Any ideas for a private kindergarten around Lexington?

Hi,

We've just moved to Lexington and generally really like it. We're in a wonderful neighborhood (Firebrook) and love our neighbors, house, community, etc.

However ... my daughter is having some problems in the public kindergarten. The school itself is wonderful (not the school for our neighborhood because it was full, but a nice school). She just doesn't seem ready for such a big school with all of the big school procedures. She's kind of falling apart.

Does anyone have any ideas for a private kindergarten I might be able to switch her into? (I know, I know, at this point it might be hard to find something). Ideally I'd like something that goes through the elementary grades, rather than something linked to a preschool that ends in kindergarten. I'll probably send her back to public school next year, but I want something that gets her ready. But, if you know of something good I'd love to hear about it. She might get over the hump and continue in her current school. {Sob, having a tough time here!}

thanks!

3 that I am familar with are not close to your neighborhood. They also generally have a waiting list. Still worth a call though....
St. Michael's
Good Shephard
Trinity Hill
However all three of these start in pre-school and end at kindergarten. You would have to look at private schools to find K-6.
The one word of caution I would offer is this. My son went to kindergarten at a Montessori school. When he switched to public school for 1st grade he was a bit behind. In hind site I wish we had put him in kindergarten where he was going to go for the rest of elementary school. They have a curriculum for each grade that builds on the previous grade. He missed out on some of these foundations and had to catch up (which he did).

Depending on your daughter's age you might want to just keep her home this year and homeschool her and then re-start her in Kindergarten or even 1st grade next year, especially if she is a young 5 year old. I am a homeschooler, though not currently in Lexington, but it might be a good transition for her to grow up a little bit at home before she does "big school." Every kid is different.

Hi,

Thanks for both replies!! She actually just turned 6; she did private kindergarten last year and everyone - including me - felt she would benefit from being the oldest in the kindergarten rather than the youngest in the 1st grade based on her personality. However, obviously she's not "ready" or something. It was all just a rush and then she was sick her second week (strep and pneumonia poor thing).

She ended up having a good day today (it was so bad in the am I had the guidance counselor and vice principal talking to me) ... they're working hard to get her going here. Even the principal was involved, long story, nothing bad.

I'm going to make some calls without letting her know I'm doing it. Any thoughts about Lexington Latin (to help homeschoolers) and, I think, Creative Montessori in Nicholasville? I also found "Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary" with my GPS.

Sorry, must run ... thanks for any help here!!!
