Smile Moving to Lexington -- End of June

My husband and I are planning to move to Lexington at the end of June. We're moving from Chicago and we're just ready for a slower pace and more nature. We've been married for a year now, and are looking for somewhere to try and settle down. Our friend (from Versailles) told us that the areas to look at are on the south/south west part of the city, but I would like to get some other advice. Are there any other areas we should be looking in?

We're looking to rent or rent to own right now, and I've been looking all over online and can't seem to find very many options besides on CraigsList. I'm wondering if there are specific sites that just aren't coming up in my searches that I should be looking at? We'd like a townhouse if possible, and we're looking for something around 650 or less per month. Not sure if that's way off for in the area, but that's what we pay here in Chicago, and would like to not spend more than that. I feel like in Lexington is going to be more expensive though (from what I've looked at everywhere besides CL) but we want to be close enough to the city that it won't take too long to get there. (w/i 20 min or so)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We're really excited to be coming to Lexington!

I was reading several years back that the average apartment price in Lexington is around $700 or $ 750. BUT that does not mean you won't be able to find a townhouse for 650 - it's just not easy, and
it might not be the fanciest one.
I live in a townhouse that costs $630 a month, but I am not sure I would recommend it.
It does have issues, it is an older townhome community, so there are some maintenance issues -
but they are quick to respond. It is in a pretty nice neighborhood, low crime area and has w/d hook ups, dishwasher, a patio and a balcony a bath upstairs and one downstairs.
If you go for a one bedroom apartment you could probably afford Shillito Park or the Mansion,
maybe even the Racquet Club.

Google something like "Lexington ky property management". Several of the bigger companies have their listings online. There are a few rentals on lbar.com.

I live in a townhome on the South side of Lexington. We just moved here 5 months ago but were lucky enough to find a great place and a great neighborhood. It is within about 5 min. to the mall and 10 min to downtown. Hamburg takes us about 15 min. to get to. We pay $750/mo and have a 2bd/2ba place. I think there are about three other ones open in our addition. I can give you more details if you would like.

Depends on what quality of place. You can get duplexes in my area (Garden Springs) I rent a hole in the wall studio apartment for $375 with all utilities plus I can hack into 2 wifi signals for free to surf the web - a $30 a month value

Personally I ain't paying more than $600 for rent anywhere. I'd rather save my money for a down payment on a house and then have a mortgage for $700 a month or less.

The older neighborhoods are usually the best deals like around Harrodsburg and Chevy Chase area. I used to live at the Raquet Club off Man O War Blvd. It was affordable and has more amenties then any place Ive lived. Very very beatiful. You can also find some nice places around Hamburg but are a bit over priced.
