We are a single couple in our mid-thirties that is moving to Lexington this fall. We found an apartment that we really like in a historic building in Woodward Heights. We are coming from a large urban city and enjoy the benefits of living downtown. Anyone with any pros or cons to living in this neighborhood?
It's on Madison. I'm going to be working on the north side of Lexington, so the commute would be great from here as well. I really like this little neighborhood.
That is a nice area, but be sure you get it at the best price you can if you are buying it. I have seen many houses sit on the market forever (even more than the usual forever). It is a wonderful street/area, but there is a very limited pool of buyers. Use that to your advantage and be prepared to wait for a very specific buyer when it is your turn to play seller.
Houses are beautiful old Victorians, many of which have undergone extensive restoration in recent years. Traffic is quite heavy on bordering Maxwell Avenue and High Street; far less on the side streets. This is a smallish area, very convenient to downtown, but close to much poorer neighborhoods which may not be so safe.
It's also adjacent to Rupp Arena - expect huge crowds and heavy traffic during basketball season and during popular concerts and other events.
