Hi again. Some of the apartments I'm looking at have gas heat and/or stove. How much does an average monthly gas bill run in Lexington?

Thanks

Very low cost in the warmer months, but obviously can go up considerably in the winter, depending on how warm you like your house or apartment. I have a gas furnace and hot water tank in my average-sized older house, which is less well-insulated than are most newer houses. I shut off two or three less-used rooms during much of the winter to conserve heat and cut down on my gas bill, and pay around $30-35 per month in the summer, and up to $300 a month in the winter (due to a medical condition, I have to keep my house at around 72 in the winter - can go up to 80+ before needing the AC in the summer as a trade-off).

A lot depends on the size of your apartment or house, insulation, including storm windows and doors, and your personal preferences. Gas stoves and water tanks are not costly - a gas furnace can be, however.

I really love you sometimes!

I think it depends on the type of home that you're in. I've lived in an apartment in the winter, and paid somewhere between $60-$80. After the apartment, I moved into a house in the downtown area... paid nearly $250 in the winter. Most recently, I lived in a wonderful little house in the Tates Creek/Man o' War area and we never paid over $120. The latter house was very well-insulated, and obviously the downtown house was not. Basically what it comes down to is this: if you live in an older home, you better cross your fingers that it's insulated properly, otherwise you'll be paying an arm and a leg this winter.
