I attend private school in LEX
What is your price range? I attend Sayre (pre- K- 12) where currently I'm a junior. Tuition is outrageous (junior year costs around $17,100 per school year) which includes our meal plan and technology things (laptop service, etc.) Middle School at Sayre is something like $13,000 per year. It's arguably the best private school in the region. I know I'm a little biased here, but you definitely need to take a look at Sayre and schedule a campus tour if your interested in private schools. Modern facilites, 12:1 or 11:1 student to faculty ratio, and a nice atmosphere for learning. We don't take CATS tests obviously, so it's harder to compare Sayre with, say, Dunbar. To contact Sayre, call 859-254-1361. LCA (K- 12) is not a bad private school either and The Lexington School (TLS) is a decent K-8 school.

We wanted excellent schools from elementary all the way too high school. Even friends who live over there recommended Private.
Now that being said, we wrote off the Lexington area, but really still do love the look of the area, especially either to the south near Nicholasville, Richmond, or more east. So my question, what really is the price of private schools per month or quarter over in your area? We really don't know. We have two children, ages 5 & 10. So one is about to enter middle school, the other coming out of kindergarten this year going into first grade.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you should look again at the public schools in Lexington. I don't know what your friends criteria are for choosing private schools--it's certainly a wonderful option if you have the money--but all that I have heard from friends in Lexington who currently have their children in public school is positive. Also, you if you can save the money you would spend on private school and instead budget that into your mortgage, you can likely get into an excellent school system.
Wilmore has also come highly recommended to me and it is a lovely small town. (The schools are Wilmore Elementary and then go to the west side of Nicholasville for middle school and high school.) Remember also that the parents' influence on their kids is stronger than the teachers' influence. If your children come from a home where reading is highly regarded, where tv and electronic media are kept to a minimum, and learning is highly valued, then they will succeed. Schools are far from perfect anywhere, and parents always need to stay very involved.
Just my 2 cents as a newbie who also is incredibly interested in where the best educational options are for her kids.

Thank you for that info!
Thanks for that info! Totally agree with you Micah girl regarding family involvement with there children to get the most out of it. How true. Also though, if one can get a school district with great scores and have parents who are deeply concerned and involved, then we believe you are increasing even more there chances at suceeding! That is why we are torn. Love the Lex area, but also love Oldham county east of Louisville as well . Looks like we keep coming back to that area which combines beauty, econmics, value, and great schools all in one.
It does sound like the Private school option would be out of our price range with two kids involved , love the idea, but $$ will prevent us. That is why we were looking for that great public school system [not just one particular school here and there] in which all the schools in that district were rated good so that it would be easier to find that perfect home for us without the worry of a bad elementary-middle-high school messing that up.
Darn kids, if it wasn't for them, we could go anywhere! Hah, wouldn't trade them for the world!

I think that by the time gets to high school if they have a special interest or are gifted and talented they can get tracked to another high school. Someone with more experience please correct me if I'm wrong. Then as long as you have a good elementary and middle school the high school options are wide open. Am I wrong on this??
