Where do you live or are you looking for a place near a good school? You might want to check out the website greatschools.net as a start - it also lists the private schools.

No, the high schools are not all the same. Yes, there are private schools. The schools all use different curricula. The greatschools.net is a good resource, and the people on this board are another good resource.
Where in Kentucky are you thinking of moving to? Why Kentucky? Any special reason? There are 120 counties, and more school systems than there are counties. Folks on this board can help you more if you are more specific. |

Do we have any private schools?? LOL, ummm yes there's plenty. Sayre School is probably the most popular private school in Lexington. The best public high school in Lexington is Paul Laurence Dunbar High.

As far as the best public high school, this too depends on what one is looking for. I don't think Dunbar is a bad school, but it is lacking in certain things that many people value - diversity in just about every way, for example. |

The neighborhoods that are close to Amazon are Masterson Station, Great Acres, Meadowthorpe, Glens at Greendale, Marehaven (Avoid), Westwood (Avoid) and McConnell's Trace. What kind of price range and size are you looking for? If you want to go up in Price, Saddle Club and The Colony are close to Amazon and are in Dunbar district. Since Amazon is off New Cirlce Rd (our "Beltway") I think any place in the SW side of Lexington would work for you.
If you don't want the Fayette Co schools in your neighborhoods district, you could always look into the magnet programs like Maxwell and Dixie for Elementary. Also, Midway is a small town in Woodford County that is about 10 easy minutes from Amazon and has a few newer neighborhoods. Bear in mind that to people from small towns, Lexington seems like a huge, congested, crime ridden place. To those from bigger cities, it seems small, easy to drive in, and safe. Having been here for 20+ years, I don't think our crime is bad. There are few places that I would be afraid to drive, or even walk through. Traffic can be bad, but I don't think it is terrible. |
