How is the quality of healthcare/specialist/Doctors/ hospitals & so on in Lexington KY compared to larger cities or wherever you moved from?
Originally we lived in New York and had great healthcare. Plenty of doctors to choose from and some of the best hospitals. When we moved to Las Vegas- it was like night & day!
The healthcare system in Las Vegas is a joke!!
Any input on Lexington KY Healthcare would be great!!
Obviously there are going to be exceptions, but health care is good here in Lexington.
The University of Kentucky Hospital is located in Lexington and is a regional advanced care, teaching and research hospital. Good Samaritan Hospital is now affiliated with the UK hospital. Also here are Central Baptist, Humana, and St Joseph Hospitals, along with two VA hospitals. The Shriners' Hospital for Children has just merged with the UK Children's hospital. People from throughout the Bluegrass and much of Eastern Kentucky habitually come to Lexington for health care beyond the basics.
There are also a good many clinics - Blue Grass Orthopedics, the Lexington Arthritis Center, and so on, plus the long-established Lexington Clinic, which houses a group of doctors with wide-ranging specialties. Central Baptist has many smaller clinics throughout the Bluegrass, too.
Are you looking for any specific needs, or for general health care?
Health care in Kentucky is poor to very poor compared to the rest of the country. Lexington has better health care than any other area in Kentucky (including Louisville), but it still struggles to break an "average" rating in national rankings. If health care is important to you in choosing a place to live, I strongly urge you to take some time and thoroughly research health care rankings for the state compared to national standards.
