Winchester for ANY family?

I wouldn't breed dogs and cats together in Winchester (or anywhere for that matter, but especially Winchester.) I can summarize my personal experiences in a DM if you'd like.

There are PLENTY of places in Kentucky and even metropolitan Lexington (which I'm not overall a fan of at all) much nicer, friendlier, cleaner, and with a higher class of folks than Winchester.

Racial issues are not really much of an issue anywhere in Kentucky except for isolated outposts in the east and southeast. However, in the Lexington area, the highest quality of life can be found in Lexington to be perfectly frank.

Versailles, Midway, and Wilmore (the latter two tiny are college towns) are less than 15 minutes from Lexington's suburbia, less than 25 minutes from downtown Lexington, and still provide a very rural environment (with the small town gossip, hillbilly twangs and all.) Versailles and Midway are in the Woodford County School District, which is the second best district in the metro behind Fayette County (Lexington) P.S.

Hey missymomof3, do you live in the Winchester area? Are you familiar with Calvary Christian Church?

Lightbulb careful

there's a huge difference between merely "living" in Lexington and working in Lexington. there's plenty fun to be had and lots of friendly people.
however, being employed, furthering your career and climbing the corporate ladder is quite another matter here in lex.
advise: rephrase your questions and separate work and play (whichever may be most important to you) and see how your answers vary. good luck.

I lived in Winchester from the time I was six until, well, I grew up. My family is still there.

I don't think you'll have any real problems, but there will be whispers behind your back. If you're willing to accept that, then you'll be fine.

(This from the white kid who wore the "X" hat to GRC just to p*ss off the rednecks.)

Here, I have two posts that outline my opinion of Winchester: Winchester???.

There are better places in Kentucky to raise kids, that's for sure! Atlantagreg and LEXpert have actually provided actually synopses.

As for the inter-racial issue, you shouldn't have a hard time anywhere in central Kentucky, including Winchester. The only areas of Kentucky that still have fairly strong racist tendencies are in the rural-most areas of eastern Kentucky (namely Knox and Whitley Counties.) I wouldn't worry.

My boss and best friend here is from Winchester. Now, his family is one of those, "from the wrong side of the tracks" kind of families that you ONLY see on the Jerry Springer Show... at least I thought. But then I once traveled around with him for a couple of days, and he took me up to see Winchester.

It's a cool looking town in their downtown area, which has been restored a lot over the last few years. But without going into details which some from that area may find insulting, my opinion would be that no, you would probably not like living in that immediate area given your family makeup.

Lexington-proper? Problably just fine. Louisville? Yes. Winchester? No (wait - I hear banjo music in the woods...)
i haven't had any negative experiences here, but when going to high school (way back when) was a different story. come to think of it, ALL of kentucky was bad way back when as most of the south was. thank God times have changed.
