Local pediatrician recs
I need recs for a local pediatrician, especially one who is open and willing to do alternative vaccination schedules.
Any suggestions? TIA!

We delayed vaccinations with one of our children. Our ped was lovely about it. His name is Philip Latham.

I don't know about how flexible they are towards the vaccination schedules, but Pediatric and Addolescent Assoc (two locations) are probably the most popular group of pediatricians in Lexington. They have a very nice mix of younger/older and male/female pediatricians. I believe they also have privileges at St Joe, St Joe East, and Central Baptist Hosp.

Thanks timeless and bluegrassgirl!
bluegrassgirl - I've gotten several recs for PAA from other parents, but unfortunately I've also heard that they are pretty strict about adhering to the standard vac schedule.

Here is my philosophy on that. If you are the one who makes the appointment for a vaccination, then you have total control over the situation. Make the appointment when YOU are ready.

Westside Pediatrics is great, but I don't know how flexible they are. The doctors told me when to get vaccinated and I didn't test them on it. If you call and ask, they will probably tell you if they are flexible or not.

I use Dr. Wilkes and Dr. Warner. I am very pleased with them. Their number is 269-4604. They're located on Tates Creek Road opposite side of Fresh Market.

I had the same question. We got to PAA, and they seem not to want you to do anything but what they recommend, so we are looking for a place that allows us to break up the shots.

How strict are they on vaccinations?

timeless - I agree LOL but some of it is harder than that. For example, I don't think I want the Hep B shot to be given right away, and that is usually administered in the hospital within hours of birth. Also, some of the vaccines I plan to do on schedule, but I don't want ALL of the vaccines that are recommended for that visit. So I will already be in the office for vaccines - and I want to make sure that we only get the vaccines I want. Finally, a big one is splitting up the MMR vaccine, which can really only be done with a doctor's blessing when they adminster them.
charz - I've also received several recs for Westside but so far they are the hardest to get into for a consultation - they have very limited hours according to the receptionist and since my husband also has limited hours he can leave work, we just can't seem to make it work.
leaving LI - We actually saw one of those doctors speak at program, and he seemed pretty nice.
bostonred - That's what I've heard about PAA, too. If you find anything out, keep me posted~

I've been doing to Dr. Wilkes my entire life (I'm 17 and his address is mentioned above). He does a wonderful job.
