You know, the type of place with the VIP bottle service and likes to keep a line to keep it fresh.
While the Dame had some great shows, I never knew them to have many trance or even techno or house DJs. Please correct me if I am wrong. If we are talking about live music venues, then that is a WHOLE different ball game. That said, Lower 48 looks to be ok as a live music venue, but I would be surprised to see any houe or trance music there. At this point, "big city" nightlife does not seem to do so hot in Lexington. This is no surprise considering it is, well, a college town. The same is mostly true for Louisville, where one of the nicest clubs that would routinely see visits from top DJs (Felt) closed in favor of another Irish Pub (Ri Ra) slated to open soon.
Again, I recommend, the OP come to Louisville to hear what he wants nearby, and my above recs stand, along with contacting some of those people I posted on the Myspace Louisville House Music page. If not, go to the real deal in Chicago (where I have dozens of recs, including many undergroud clubs).

Bang is in Lexington.
The Dame definitely brought in house and trance DJ's. I agree that it is not to the same level as the bigger cities like Chicago, obviously, but there is certainly an interest in Lexington.
The Lower 48 is being opened by a local popular house DJ, and supposedly the plan is to feature a lot of national and international DJ's of different genres. He recently promoted a rave in Lexington featuring a trance DJ from Germany, I believe. The same DJ is one of the promoters responsible for many of the shows at the Pink Door in Louisville.
Trance is harder to find in Lexington than overall house/electronica, but there are enough local grassroots music promoters to help encourage it so that could improve in the future!

Thank you. I had not heard of that one. It appears to be a very small gay club:
MySpace.com - BANG NIGHT CLUB - 27 - Male - LEXINGTON, Kentucky - www.myspace.com/crossingslexington
It appears very similar to an industrial video lounge in Louisville that I also hear plays nice techno and house, but I failed to mention it above because it is more involved with the the gay bar circuit in the city:
Starbase Q - Gallery District - Louisville, KY 40202 | Metromix Louisville
Fuzion is similar:
http://louisville.metromix.com/bars-...497735/content
I believe these to be the kinds of places where a straight person may feel out of place without accompanying gay friends. However, the Connection in Louisville is so large, and the DJ so good, many straight people, especially women, go there to dance and hear trance and techno.

Keep me posted on Lower 48. I was unaware that promoter was involved. It sounds promising for Lexington nightlife.

Are there any places in Lex that ever have guest DJs that do ambient music?? In bigger cities, these are not usually clubs but speciality bars. Triple Crown Lounge used to do them sometimes in the summer out on the patio. Do they still??

I was wondering if they still had it too - I was hesitant to recommend Triple Crown because I'm not sure if they still do it.

It seems that Fuzion has taken a dramatic change of route as of lately though so its not as focused on the gay scene as it is the college night and random electronic shows..it really is an awesome venue! Too bad no one ever goes to Starbase Q..Grr!

If only the drive back to Lexington wasn't so long... its a shame to have to factor in the cost of a hotel room just to have a decent night on the town

Is that place open yet? It sounds very promising. Natefx is a good promoter, I would like to hear more
I went to Hugos on New Years, and they played top 40 techno/trance. The DJ there said on a slower night he would play some less top 40 stuff. DJ DaVinchi (sp), nice guy
