Default Moving to KY

Hello,

I currently live in Long Beach CA but will be moving to Lexington in about 6 months. I am interested in finding a safe area to live in the city. I am currently on disability, studio rent of about $500, no kids and I do not really care about the "small town feel" vs. "big city life." I am only interested in an area that is safe.

The Turfland Mall area (Garden Springs neighborhood) is my personal favorite part of Lexington. It's very safe and middle class but lacks the in your face snobbery of the 'burbs. There are quite a few safe apartments just south and west of the "mall" (the mall part is closed, going to become a "town center") that are in that price range. I live in a studio apt in that are that is only $375 a month with all utilities.

We moved to Lexington recently. Both me and my wife work at UK. We were wondering about the housing market here in Lexington and if it would be a good idea to buy a house here. We plan to live here for just 4-5 years.

Smile Relocation Options

Hello all, I am here to ask about the environmental culture of Lexington and if you know anything about Bowling Green.
As requested---
Where you are working? Presently in my hometown I work for the county government in the social services department.
-How much you are willing to spend on housing? I would like to stay under $1000
-How long of a commute you're willing to tolerate? I am a single mother so the shorter the better.
-If you have kids: Private school or public school? Public I like diversity
-What type of neighborhood environment you are looking for: small town feeling? small city excitement? suburbia delight? small city excitement
-Community amenities important to you? Child friendly, dog friendly, sport enthusiast
-Pie or cake? cake

I don't know anyone in the area, I'm not looking to relocate at this moment only looking to gather information, I am presently in school pursuing my BA in Business Administration. My family consist of Myself, my son and our dog LaRue we are quiet clean and community participators. We love the outdoors but as of recent times I have discovered that I have developed a phobia for spiders all shapes and sizes so that eliminates our extensive camping and outdoorsy activities unfortunately.

So any information would be greatly appreciated to help move along the decision and planning phases of my relocation plans. And yes I will be visiting soon. Thank you all in advance.

Wink Relocating to lexington,ky,,need input

Hello,,, my husband and I are relocating to Lexington, and really need some good sound advice on what areas to live in. We are a couple in our mid 40s, my husband is a CNC Machinist. I Manage apartments. We are looking for a NICE, CLEAN, QUIET, neighborhood. With public transportation ( only have one car ), and close to shopping, etc. We will be renting and our budget is between 600 - 900 for rent a month. We prefer a house to rent,, but will settle for a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment as long as its nice and quiet. NO BOOM BOOM MUSIC !! Low crime. I understand theres some crime everywhere these days..but would like to keep it limited. We are looking for jobs with relatively short commute so need to find an area to live in close to a Machine Shop. Not interested in schools our kids are grown. We have a little chihauhau (Ricky, 8 lbs) and our older cat (Samuel, who likes to just lay and watch out the window). For entertainment,, we like casino trips ,,if there is a bus that picks up. And we enjoy the movies,, other than that.. we enjoy our grandkids..and I my crafts and my husband his stamp collection. Thanks for any help.

READ if you are asking about where to live in Lexington.

There's been many threads recently from people requesting information on where to live in Lexington. If you are about to post one of these information request threads, please include the following:

-Where you are working
-How much you are willing to spend on housing
-How long of a commute you're willing to tolerate
-If you have kids: Private school or public school?
-What type of neighborhood environment you are looking for: small town feeling? small city excitement? suburbia delight?
-Community amenities important to you
-Pie or cake?

We on the Lexington forum would appreciate it if you included the above information in your initial post so you can get the information you want as quickly as possible and we would not have to repost the same questions for every thread. Thank you.
To STX12499 please read
-Where you are working: Not sure yet I'm currently looking for employment in Lexington
-How much you are willing to spend on housing: I'm looking for 1 bedroom no more then $500
-How long of a commute you're willing to tolerate: Commuting I'm hoping about 30-40 mins
-If you have kids: Private school or public school? Public or private depends on cost
-What type of neighborhood environment you are looking for: laid back, with kids in neighborhood, no sec 8 or public housing near by, not a severe amount of crime
-Community amenities important to you: Parks are nice, water parks are nicer, place where my son can play soccer or near a YMCA
-Pie or cake? of course CAKE...lots and lots of CAKE.. lol

I'm doing as much research of the city as I can and I was looking towards the Southwest side and the Northwest side...Garden Springs, Gardenside, Cardinal Valley, Pine Meadows...etc

PS THANK YOU!
