Unreal experience. Hey, we ought to start a thread about crazy car buying experiences!
Here are mine:
1) Salesman told me a car with 100,000 was just broken in.
2) Salesman told me the price was only good for one day. I told him I would buy the same car from one of the other 100 or so Chevrolet dealers in Ky.
3) Salesman told me the tires had plenty of tread left......yeah, maybe I could get around New Circle Rd once or twice!
4) Salesman told me manager wasn't going to give me a price on the car since I wasn't going to buy that day. They didn't want me shopping their price he said. I gave him his card back and told him to tell his manager that I guess they weren't going to sell the car to me tomorrow either!
THE BEST ONE EVER!!!
I call a lot to see if the car advertised in the paper was an automatic or a manual. The salesman told me I would have to come down to see the car. I asked him if he was really not going to tell me unless I came down there. He said yes. I told him to put somebody else on the phone that would answer my question. Lo and behold, It was a manual!
When they ask me how much I want to spend, I always tell them nothing, but I can meet them in the middle somewhere.
When they do the old trick of saying nothing and waiting for you to talk, I just sit there.
Never tell them the price or payment you are willing to spend. They will always get you to your limit by either 1)jacking up the price and making the loan longer or 2) a higher interest rate. Always check the price the salesman tells you with the dealers online price and the price in the paper. Most cars I have bought used were cheaper online or in the paper. When you mention that, they always tell you that price had just been reduced and they weren't looking today's sheet. (I always want to say "Oh, were you looking at last weeks sheet, because the lower price was ALSO in last weeks paper!")
As a realtor, it would also be interesting to hear people's experiences with us! I am sure that would be a great post.

I just bought a new Honda in June of this year and went to Jeff Wyler Honda in Frankfort. While the salesman was nice enough, the "sales manager" (name withheld), was a total jerk. If it weren't for the fact that they had the exact car I was looking for, I would have walked out. But, I'll go to Don Jacobs for service -- they always treat you like a VIP.

I almost feel like car salesman arent needed in this and & age. I mean, what are they really there for? Most shoppers are pretty savvy these days & do their homework online before they even hit the lot. Basically, their only function for those types is letting you test drive the vehicle & doing the paperwork. But, thats not how they see it. Their job (to them) is to hope an uninformed sucker walks through the door & squeeze every penny they can from them.
And no, I don't think EVERY auto salesperson thinks like that. But I can count on one hand how many I've met that actually had my best interest in mind. Its almost like diving into a shark tank, especially nowadays with sales so low. I make a game out of it & sorta play the dumb customer just to gauge them. Then let em know I'm packin' with info & see their reaction. When they start that high pressure crap or out come the lies, I just leave & give them a phony number if they ask (which they most always do).
Anyways, I think places like Carmax & those others got the right idea. Maybe even Scion (no haggling, no pressure sales).

I personally HATE car dealerships, which is why I would rather spend lots of money getting my 1991 Camry repaired instead of buying a new car. Used Toyota's are really expensive anyway, so I'd have to shell out $8,000 just to get a half decent one that would only be 5 years newer than mine
