Restaurants with real sweet tea in Lexington?
A bit random yes I know, but having family from the Carolinas, I got used to having real southern sweet tea with meals. I've lived in Lexington my entire life but cannot find a restaurant with real southern sweet tea (not that nasty stuff from McDonald's) like you find in the Carolinas and Georgia. Are there any places that I have overlooked where I can find my favorite drink?

I don't know of any, but I think I know the kind you are talking about. My In-Laws use to make Sweet tea that I swear was like 100 tea bags and 10 lbs of sugar per gallon. It was stronger than a double shot of expresso.

Chedders has great sweet tea.....I would say its fifty/ fifty as to sweet tea or not in a restaurant. Honestly when I order it somewhere more often than not they have it. I can't believe you haven't found somewhere that serves it here. Logans also has it as well as Outback etc. P.s. McDonald's sweet tea is good stuff and it was on good morning america the other day as winning a contest in alabama with their sweet tea vs locals and the locals picked the mcdonalds tea. It is a lot better than I thought it would be. Would you like some sweet tea?

THe thing that bothers me is the places that do have both sweet tea and unsweetened tea. They ask you what you want but seem to give you whatever they want you to have

I haven't been to Chedder's in a long time, will have to go back and try it. Last few times I had McDonald's sweet tea, I had this awful taste of aspartame in my mouth and so I have avoided drinking it since then. A lot of places that I have been to that serve "sweet tea" just don't taste the same as the places I go with my family in the Carolinas which was why I asked about real southern sweet tea (brewed with lemon and a hint of mint). Another reason to go south for college . And yes sandman I would like some sweet tea. Any other places you can think of? PS I tend to avoid chains in general as I love some of the local spots in town.

I have done a search and tried to find a recipe for the tea you are talking about and other than sun tea/fridge tea I can't find anything any different than what I already fix. Do you have an idea how to make what you are talking about?

I love McDonald's tea! You have to be careful of some places though, if they don't clean out their tea urns regularly it can leave a very nasty tase behind and get into the fresh tea.

That would explain my bad experiences with McDonald's tea.. Basically my aunt boils the water and adds as the sugar and then puts in a slice or two of lemon and a sprig of mint while the tea is simmering. I can't get enough of it!

I don't like lemon in mine but i do put mint in it from the mint garden I have in the front yard I don't simmer my tea though, I take it off the heat so it doesn't get bitter. I also found a recipe that calls for a pinch of baking soda to get the bitterness out.
