Default Apparel fabric stores in Lexington

I'm trying to decide between a city in GA and Lexington as a place to relocate.

One of the things I will need is a good fabric store. Not a JoAnn or Hancock type store, but a store that might carry a better quality of fabric. I am not interested in upholstery fabrics.

OK, here are the fabric stores in Lexington.

There is a store, called Alma's Variety Shop, which is an unbelievable treasure trove. It is like something out of a Dickens novel for its oddity. It's an old Victorian house stuffed from floor to ceiling in every room with fabric and trim of every kind. Most of the garment-quality fabric is for formal occasions, though.

There are 2 quilting stores with good cotton prints.

There are several JoAnn's and Hancock's locations as well, and several upholstery-fabric stores. I know them all. But this won't help you.

The kind of store you want, used to be in Louisville, called Baer's. But it just closed.

I'm sorry that my report is not more encouraging about the Lexington fabric scene.

Actually, Alma's sounds great, the sort of place I love. I will check that out the next time I'm in town. Thanks!

It is great. Very character-filled, and always a treasure to be found.
