Well, Good Foods on Southland Drive has good, fresh take-out sushi.

The #1 China Buffet on Nicholasville Road has acceptable sushi, made fresh constantly.

Haven't been out for sushi at a sushi bar in a long time, though. I bet teebird will know.

Go to Harry's in Hamburg for Sushi or down to Chevy Chase at the Sushi Resteraunt next to Buddy's. I would seriously advise you not to eat sushi from a Buffet. Surprisingly though Krogers has freshly made sushi that is made by a sushi chef at the store every day that is good to take home for a quick meal if that is your thing.

Tachibana on Newtown used to be one of the best - it was opened to accommodate all of the visiting Japanese execs for Toyota.

The last time we went, they were looking a little worn around the edges, though, so it might be a toss-up.

Tomo on High St. is excellent.
A lot of people say Seki, on Broadway, has the best but the owners can be very rude to non-Japanese customers. They are nicknamed the Sushi Nazi's.

OK I haven't had a chance to get online today, but here I am. I've been to most of the Japanese restaurants in town and personally the sushi is best at: Tomo and Mandarin. I've also had sushi at: Nagasaki Inn, Miyako, Yamamoto, Seki, Tachibana, and #1 China Buffet. Many of our grocery stores sell sushi as well, though this is pretty standard in most cities now, I guess. Tomo is pricier than the others, but I worked there for three summers and can assure you that everything you are served is fresh. To put that into perspective, there is a delivery truck almost daily there at around 3 PM delivering food for the evening. You pay for it though- $10 for a rainbow roll for example. Mandarin has a good selection as well and generally tastes fresh. I like Seki, except for the fact that the owners are rather rude to non- Japanese customers, which is too bad since the food I had was good. My two recommendations for you to start with are Tomo and Mandarin, though. However, I must admit that coming from Atlanta, you may be a bit disappointed with the selection of high quality sushi restaurants as I was coming from Los Angeles.

Yes - ditto on Seki - good sushi but seem pretty bigoted against non-Japanese customers.

That's the one I was remembering, and it has been AGES! Couldn't remember its name. Yeah, I bet it is getting a little faded around the edges by now.

We ate at Tachibana's a couple years ago, we used to eat there frequently when we lived in Lexington. Sushi was good, but the sukiyaki was awesome.

LarlaB is on a distinguished road
There is a new restaurant in Brannon Crossing (just south on Nicholasville from MOW) called Asuka Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi, it has some excellent sushi, my sister lives in Nashville and is addicted to sushi, and said that it was very good compared to what she is used to there. I like it more than some expensive places I have been in Baltimore and Philly...try the tempura eel roll!
