Default where to retire

My husband and I would like more information about retiring in the Danville area.

We are very active and in our beginning 60's. At the present time we are looking at smaller properties that would take less work. We have been told to look at the Bardstown area too.

We must say that it would be nice to live were you have contact with others in our situation. How does one as a new comer met retirees?

If any one has information about danville or near Louisville,...

Default Danville a good choice

I was just in Danville looking for a retirement place two weeks ago. Had been through it two years ago and have been following up. Nice little town - lots of beautiful homes, especially with acreage. 40 minutes to the big mall just over the Lexington line. Surrounding area of Harrodsburg and Hustonville should not be overlooked - both within 15 minutes of Danville. Older money in the area. It is not depressed. Go and look.

Danville would be a great choice, but so would Bardstown. I just happen to prefer Danville though. It's very clean, safe, and has a great downtown. The good thing about Bardstown is that it's close to Louisville. Danville is a bit further out, but still fairly close to Lexington and Louisville.

Thumbs up Where to retire?

Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. All four season, spring warm rain, everything budding, good fishing/hunting, summer hot days cool nights, great lakes, rivers, thunderstorms, Fall great warm/cool weather, beautiful scenery, good hunting/fishing, and winter with snow and great skiing and fun in snow. Oh and did i mention the worlds only floating green on the Coeur d'Alene Gold Course. If you have never heard of the area check it out for a vacation atleast. www.cdaresort.com that is the 'big' resort in the area. Happy Retirement.

I love Danville and thinks it's a great place to retire! It has all the charm and beauty of small town America, but is close to other options. Danville has a good representation of churches where I'm sure there's various opportunities for retirees. There's also a community theatre there as well as a playhouse that brings in great talent - both of these seem to be popular to that age group when I've attended. Centre college has plays and opportunities that you don't find in many small towns/colleges. I just think it's a hard choice to beat for someone in your situation. Oh, also, lots of great older homes with charm and character.... some larger, some smaller... some in more need of fix up than others. Definitely options there!

May I offer another option? Berea, about 35 minutes south of Lexington, is a wonderful small town, home to a liberal arts college with a very active elder community. It might be worth your time to check it out.

Danville is lovely. I have family living there and I find it quite idyllic. I have only been through Berea one time and it is lovely as well. Both have excellent colleges which I think is so nice for a retirement town.

Danville. No question. Do an advanced search for my posts on Danville. I lift it up in a very positive light, and it's rather close to Lexington. You could also consider Lancaster, Hustonville, Burgin, Harrodsburg, or Springfield, but Danville is the best town in central KY IMO.

Bardstown sucks, on the other hand. One of Kentucky's rather snobby areas. But at least it's close to Louisville. (You ought to consider Elizabethtown, Brandenburg, or Oldham County if you want to be near Louisville.)

I go to Danville all the times. I was in Danville passing through to Lancaster to pick up a new title for the boat. I am deaf....you will see a lot of deaf people there Danville is home to Kentucky School for the Deaf.

I think Danville's really nice but .. i wouldnt retire there. I would buy a home with waterfront at Herrington Lake and retire there! but i am only 26!
