Smile The Village Apartments

My husband and I are interested in moving to The Village apartments. Does anyone know what they are like? Is it hard to get a lease there? We don't have the best credit, but we both have steady jobs. I would love any input that you may have.

Thanks in advance...

If you're referring to The Village on S. Locust Hill, years ago they used to be one of the better apartment complexes in Lexington. However, over time, I think they have lost some of their standing in the apartment community. This doesn't seem to be uncommon as older apartments age and newer complexes are built that are fresher with more amenities.

Anyway, The Village is conveniently located to lots of shopping and dining options, including a small Wal-mart, a newly renovated Kroger store, a movie theater, lots of restaurant options, dry cleaners, banks....everything you could need really. It also has easy access to I-75 and Hamburg Pavilion.

I had a friend that lived there back when it was the "in" place to be, and I remember the apartments being somewhat small, but relatively nice. They offer covered parking spaces, which is a nice convenience.

Maybe some other members will have more recent experiences with The Village. Oh, and you may want to check out The Village Luxury Apartments Ratings, Reviews, Map, Rents, and other Lexington apartments for rent from ApartmentRatings.com to see what others have to say. But, read the reviews with a grain of salt -- lots of disgruntled former tenants post there and you can't always believe everything you read.

Good luck in your apartment search!

When I was apartment hunting a few months ago, I looked at these apartments. They're okay in my opinion, but I did find the staff to be a little.... not really rude, but moreso .... eh how can I explain it. They just seemed busy... bothered... apathetic maybe? The property seemed alright, and the apartment was nice. I personally don't like the Richmond Rd. area just because it feels too busy. None the less, if that's your cup of tea, then it may be a nice place for you. I liked that you have the ability to pay rent online. Also, they do have an application online. Apartments for rent in Lexington, KY - The Village, managed by Mid-America Apartment Communities is their website. They've got some leasing info on there too. After my last apartment, I've just gotten majorly burned out on apartment living and am renting a house now. Good luck on your hunt.

Well I have tried several times to contact the property via email, but thay have never gotten back to me. I am keeping them in mind, but I am a little upset with their lack of interest.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I must correct my last post. They finally got back with me. I am not real picky I just want to know that I am going to be living in a safe place. I haven't been able to tour the apartments yet, but the outside looks really rundown.

EKYGirl, there may be other alternatives to The Village that are in the same price range. Are you just sold on that location, or would you consider other areas?

I agree, there are other nice alternatives. Lexington has some great homes listed on craigslist...are you against renting a home? I personally find it much nicer than the typical "apartment complex."

Well the situtation is that I am pretty much stuck in that location because of my husband's job. He is within walking distance if we stay in that area. We only have one car so it just makes things eaiser if he is able to walk. So, I suppose my answer is yes, this is pretty much my only option at this point. I have had some bad experiences with private owners so that is why I am drawn to complex living, at least until we are able to buy.

Well, considering that you're somewhat bound to that location, I think either The Village or Raintree Apartments would be your only options. I wouldn't call them Lexington's "premier" apartment communities, but you could certainly do worse. As for the area being safe, I don't know any specific crime statistics, but the Richmond Road/Locust Hill area appears relatively safe to me.

You mentioned the exterior of The Village looking rundown. I do know that Raintree Apartments had an exterior renovation in the last couple of years, so they have decent curb appeal.

As for their seeming lack of interest (I would call that unprofessional), unfortunately, that seems to be prevalent in many apartment communities. I was an apartment dweller in Lexington for many years, and I can tell you that the truly courteous, professional apartment management teams are few and far between.

As bad as it sounds to say, you may just have to "suck up" the bad points you don't like, particularly if you absolutely must live in that location due to employment and transportation circumstances. Just remember, it's not forever and "this too shall pass"!
