Default Is Lexington a good place for dog lovers?

Hi all, I've been seriously considering a move to Lexington for about a year now. I've done my research and it seems like a great place. I'm relocating from Michigan and honestly, it's just too cold and I feel like I'm in the middle of nowhere.

I live in a suburb now and it takes me 30 mintues by freeway to get to the nearest mall. I don't like being so secluded, not to mention the whole state is not very dog friendly. Considering I have three dogs this is an even bigger problem.

Can anyone reccomend a good neighborhood in the surrounding area of Lexingtion? I'm looking for something middle class, relatively safe, reasonable home prices, and of course dog friendly! I'd like to be close to dog parks, pet stores, trails, coffee shops or cafes that allow dogs at outside tables, and various other dog centric places. How dog friendly is the Lexignton area really?

I also would like to be close to shopping malls and grocery stores. I'm tired of driving ten miles to the local store.

Hopefully I'm not asking too much. If anyone has suggestions I'd greatly appreciate them. I can read about Lexington 'till I'm blue in the face but getting an opinion for people who know of it personally is so much better.

Thank you!

Honestly - the best thing to do is google the Lexington site - get the phone number to the Chamber of Commerce - and call them. Tell them what you are looking for - and since they live there - they will be able to send you info on what you are looking for.

Like any city - there will be areas that are more dog friendly than others. In Louisville - the area around Frankfort Avenue seems to be wonderful - there is even a bakery just for dogs! There are also many pet supply stores around that allow you to take your dogs in.

I am sure you will find a mix in Lexington as well - and probably a puppy bakery or two!

Make the call! I know it will help!

You need to move to Materson Station in Lexington. This is a great area for you close to downtown and on the outskirts of Lexington on Leestown Rd heading toward Midway and Frankfort. They have a huge and I mean huge park area in the front of the subdivision that used for any intermural (sp?) you can think of, has walking trails, and like what Kentucky is known for has a huge Equestrian complex. Oh yeah the fair is held here as well in the summer.

Try the 40509 area. Jacobson Park has a dog park. Hamburg (a giant retail area) has a PetSmart. Lots of choices in housing. Plus you have everything that is on Richmond Road close! I live out here and find that 90% of everything you could want is less than 10 minutes away.

The Masterson area (40511) does have a dog park, and is about 5 minutes closer to downtown that the 40509 area............BUT there is nothing else out there. From what I read, you want as much as you can get as close as you can get to it. Masterson has almost no retail close by other than a handful of fast food restaurants, 3 gas stations, and a small grocery store. Housing is plentiful out there, but, most people chose that area since it is cheaper than similar houses in other parts of Lexington. You may get a house cheaper out there, but you will have sell it for cheaper just like all the homeowner's out there are now realizing.

I don't know how dog friendly we are here. I have never seen a dog at a restaurant or coffee shop other than a service dog...................Sorry!

My fiance and I take our dog about once a week to the Jacobson dog park. All three of us love it. I'm also a dog groomer, so I tend to ONLY see dog lovers! I graduated from Nash Academy of Animal Arts, also here in Lexington. I hope you decide to join us!
