My husband is an engineer, and he has not started to look for jobs yet. We are still in the research mode. He will probably work downtown though, unless we find an engineering firm somewhere outside of downtown Lexington. We can spend up to 250000 on our new home, and we don't mind something that we have to do work on if it is in a good location. We would like to stick to public schools. We don't want to live in a really urban environment. We would like the feel of an exciting but small city. Fort Collins has a lot of cool restaurants, shops, and bars. We would like a similar atmosphere without having to live in downtown Lexington. He doesn't mind a 20-25 min. commute. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Everyone will say the Southside of Lexington, but the Northside has a lot of new development going on. The good thing about the Northside is less traffic and closer to downtown. The bad thing is schools are not so good and shopping is mainly on the Southside. Jessamine and Scott Counties are worth looking at as well.

Yeah, there are actually three neighborhoods that Polo Club runs through. Between MOW and Deer Haven you have Gleneagles and The Home Place. Polo Club isn't accessable from the otherside of Deer Haven yet, but that neighborhood is called Creekside At Andover.

You were right, Polo Club is the street, not neighborhood!

If you don't want to live directly in Lexington, try the bedroom communities of Georgetown, Nicholasville, or Richmond. All are thriving, growing, and diverse!

would recommend 40513 area--best schools and best area to live. there are several other nice places to live in lexington as well. Would stay in Lexington proper and avoid outlying counties, like lexpert says, there are not really suburbs--the neighborhoods past man o war are the suburbs but they are in lexington.

Actually there are suburbs. Nicholasville, Wilmore, Versailles, Georgetown, Richmond can be considered suburban communities of Lexington. While they have sustaining and vibrant micro communities of their own, they feed on Lexington and these communities wouldn't be as vibrant if not for Lexington. All are within the 20-25 minute communte range to downtown.

Any community listed on New Circle Rd can be considered suburbs in my opinion.... "Paris (N Broadway/Paris Pike - US 27/US68), Georgetown (Georgetown St/Rd I-75, US 25), Versailles (High St/Versailles Rd, US 60), Frankfort (Manchester St/ Old Frankfort Pike / US 421), Harrodsburg (S Broadway/US 68), Nicholasville (Limestone, US 27), Richmond (Main St/Richmond Rd, US 25, US 421, I-75), Winchester (Midland Ave/Winchester Rd, US 60, I-64)."
