Possibly moving to Lex, can anyone share info/views of the area ?
Just wanting to know what's it's like there from long time residents or recent transplants.

Pros: Highly educated population, very few murders or shootings, nice downtown
Cons: Traffic is awful in many areas, no zoo or good museums, very UK centric (half the news is about UK sports)

to clarify: UK means University of Kentucky [not United Kingdom as it would appear to a non-Kentuckian].

I'm a life long resident. I love Lexington. To me it offers a niche for anyone regardless of their likes/dislikes. It is very diverse for a city its size. One example is this: Lex is rated one of the top 5 cities for gays. In todays paper it is rated in the top 5 for religious giving for the US (not to say that these are necessarily opposites but rather to demonstrate a broad spectrum of what's here). There is a very active arts community. As you can imagine there is a huge following of UK sports. There is great hiking/camping nearby. There are some great places within the town as well. The arboretum is a treasure; McConnell Springs is a sanctuary right in the middle of an industrial section of town.
Lex also rates in the top 10 for population with a college degree.

To add a question to the OP if I may: any issues with air quality in Lexington?
I've done some searching and have come up with nothing but allergies, I am assuming those problems are caused by pollen?

allergies - pollen AND mold. There is very heavy rainfall in central Kentucky - usually the mold counts are quite high. The newspaper shows a pollen count and a mold count daily.

That would be bad for me. I have a lot of allergies, but it's that way no matter where I live. So really, it wouldn't make a difference.

I've lived in Lexington my entire life and so here's my two cents worth.
Pros: Very safe overall, educated population, low crime rate, good health care system, great local restaurants and less chains, lower cost of living than most of the US.
Cons: Traffic is terrible on the south side of town, the bus system is unbelievably unreliable, UK obsessed (it doesn't help that I'm a UNC fan), no zoos or good museums, pathetic airport.
I've listed a number of cons, but the pros outweigh the cons significantly. Overall it's a fine place to live.
