Thumbs up Visited Lexington

I must say, Lexington seems like a great place to live. My wife and I just got home from Lexington, and what a beautiful place. Downtown, has a small town feel to it, although it does have a few skyscraper(s). Everyone their seems to be really nice and welcoming. I thought Lexington was very clean, as I did not see garabage blowing around, and everything seemed to be newer. Georgetown is great. We stayed and my wife's grandparents who have a 100 acre farm there. They are really building up Georgetown from the last time I have been there. Fayette Mall was huge. Almost every parking spot was taken when we went. Very clean. We felt very safe everywhere we went in Lexington. My wife wants to move there in a few years (she lived in Sadieville and misses the country).

I give Kudos to all of you, and keep up the great work on your city!

The only things that I don't like about Lexington are

1. its very inadequate road system. Either widen those roads or stopping building houses everywhere

2. a small amusement park, zoo, and history museum would be nice

3. it lacks any nice urban neighborhoods that aren't 80% populated by college students

Thank you for your nice comments about Lexington, dhunter. I fell in love with this city the first time I visited and made a silent resolve to myself that I would move here one day, which I did. I've never regretted it since!

Please come back and visit again! Lexington is especially pretty in the Spring!

I agree. Drive out for a meet at Keeneland in the spring then take a drive up to Versailles on US 60. It is beautiful country out there.

It wasn't our first time in Lexington and definitely won't be the last. Phonelady, I agree with you that Lexington is a breeze to get around. Cleveland takes forever, especially in rush hour. Also I noticed that on Saturday, it seemed liked know one was downtown. Felt like we were the only car on the road. It Was very peaceful.

We are trying to decide, do we make the move now, while we are young, or wait a few years. We both have good jobs in Cleveland, and with the way the economy is, would we be able to get jobs in Lexington. According to Kilpinger Magazine, Lexington was ranked 5th for young professionals in 2008! Not sure what we are going to do.

What kind of parks does Lexington have? Any for hiking/biking/site seeing? How far is Daniel Boone National Forest?

There are a few "nature" walking trails at McConnell Springs and Raven Run. Lexington is looking at adding many miles of bike trails in the future, but right now if you want bike only trails your best bet is driving to Louisville or Cincinnati. Veterans Park (in Lex) is a good place to bike off the paved trails if it hasn't rained in a while.

The best "wilderness" hiking trails are at Natural Bridge/ Red River Gorge in Powell County (about 60 miles from Downtown). Berea College Forest has 10 miles of nice trails, its only 40 miles away. Cumberland Gap National Park and Pine Mountain State Park are 2.5 to 3 hours away
