Harrodsburg and Tates Creek (right where it narrows from 4 lanes to 2) are very heavy in the morning. Nicholasville Rd is too but with the lane changes it goes pretty smoothly. Richmond Rd moves pretty smoothly compared to the others (imo).

Chattavegas, while all the advice you have been given is accurate, remember that Lex is a smaller town that Chattanooga. I am sure that what we consider bad is nothing to you. It has been a while since I have been there, but I remember a lot of traffic. I had some friends on Missionary Ridge. There are some beautiful houses up there! It is kind of funny, but it was the family of the guy that invented the Deluxe Moon Pie!!
I saw where you said you are hitting LBAR every day. I have a couple of suggestions. One is that you should use lbarmls.com instead. It allows you to refine your search a little more. If you don't want to comb through the same old listings everyday in search of the one or two new ones, I could set up a tabbed portal for you that sends you listings that match what you want and allows you to save, reject and make notes of listings. All it takes is an e-mail address. No name, phone # or any other way for me to contact you.
I hope this offer doesn't annoy you. If you don't want to use this tool, that is fine. If you do, there is no commitment to me in any way. I am old enough to know that you can't (and shouldn't) talk people into doing things they don't want to do

Thanks, Lexpert, I'll take a look at lbarmls.com. I've also started using Zillow.
Interestingly, in Chattanooga the interstates and other major arteries are pretty bad getting in and out of town during rush hour, but off the interstates downtown rarely has any significant traffic.
I am also surprised that Lexington is in fact smaller than Chattanooga when you include the metro area. I believed that Lexington was much bigger than Chattanooga, and that is true if you just look at the city. Below is from wikipedia:
Chattanooga
Population (2006)
- City 168,293 (city proper)
- Metro 496,704
Lexington
Population (2007)
- City 279,044
- Metro 436,684
Of course, Chattanooga is much more spread out than Lexington, and parts of North Georgia may be included in Chattanooga's metro area.

We had dinner at a nice restaurant in Midway on Friday, then Saturday we drove all over Lexington. We pretty much drove up and down most streets from just slightly north of Richmond to just slightly north/west of Harrodsburg, all within New Circle. We also looked at Stonewall and Masterson Station. We liked how condensed Lexington is, in that it doesn't take very long at all to get from one side of town to the other. We also felt very safe driving around all of the areas described above.
A few observations:
--Overall, we are going to look everywhere from just north/east of Richmond to just north/west of Harrodsburg within new circle. We are not going to rule out Stonewall or Masterson Station, but those are not our preferences because there are so many good options real close to UK.
--The Seven Parks area just west of campus was one of our favorite areas.
--We also liked Chevy Chase and the surrounding areas, but realize that they are likely outside of our price range. We would love to find a steal there, though.
--We liked the Headley Green neighborhood, which we just happened to come across as we drove towards Masterson Station.
--The homes in Lansdowne-Merrick appeared to be in good condition (mostly) with attached garages and enough of a yard for us.
--Between Clays Mill and Nicholasville, south of Southland Dr., had some nice homes that we would really like, but it appeared to be a little hit and miss from street to street.
My question for you guys is between Richmond, Tates Creek, Nicholasville, Clays Mill and Harrodsburg, which streets have the worst traffic within New Circle and when is traffic at its worst?
Thanks.

I'm glad to hear you had a great time in Lexington!
The road with the worst traffic is Nicholasville Road! I think it's the worst in the afternoons but during UK games it's very bad.

Does that population include all of the Hamilton County? The city of Lexington and Fayette County merged a long time ago. Our population includes all of Fayette County, so maybe that is what it is?
Also, the agent that has the house in Southland that you liked is really great. Gwen Matthews is her name. If you aren't using a realtor, I just wanted to let you know she will be good to deal with if you pick that house!

I don't know about the population calculation for Chattanooga, but Chattanooga and Hamilton County haven't merged.
We drove into town on Richmond around 4pm on Friday, and traffic didn't appear to be too bad in either direction. Ultimately, I'm not going to worry about which of those roads will be my wife's route into work. Hopefully, we can find something close enough to the university that it won't really matter.

As long and you are inside of New Circle traffic shouldn't be an issue.

This is purely personal opinion, but while I like to frequent a few of the businesses near the Transy campus (like Atomic Cafe, Third Street Stuff, etc) I would not live there as a single female, or if I had a small child. The area is improving by leaps and bounds, but it still has a rather high incidence of drug deals, petty crime and break-ins.
