Default Life in Lexington

This weekend's weather was great for the most part. Went walking outdoors in the clean, warm air. It reminded me of all the positives of living in Lexington

What is your favorite part of living here?

lexingtony will become famous soon enoughlexingtony will become famous soon enough
My favorites: the downtown Farmer's Market on Saturday morning and Triangle Park at night when the fountains are lit. And then there's Keeneland's Spring meet. And indie flicks at the Kentucky Theatre. And the fish sandwich at Charlie's Fish Market..... aww, heck, who am I kidding? I love EVERYTHING about Lexington!!!

tx2ky is on a distinguished road
Keep it coming...I'm making my big move up there from Texas in a few months (born and raised, always have been and always will be a Texan, but my man somehow is getting me to leave!) and although I'm excited I'm also a little nervous! Give me more to look forward to!

As some one who doesn't exactly love living in Lexington I would say I do really like the Downtown area - it just needs a large museum or aquarium to be truely first class.

For the most part I echo lexingtony's response; Farmer's Market, Keeneland, the fountain. I would have to add walks in the arboretum, hiking around Raven's Run, McConnell's Trace, bike rides, the Ky Theatre, the downtown library, Suggin's, neighbors, the school system. I will think some more but these come immediately to mind

As a newcomer to Lexington from a much larger and older city, my favorite part is that everyplace I need to go is so nearby. People here seem to complain about the traffic a lot, but I don't know why. I live in Lansdowne and I feel like I can zip anywhere in 15 minutes, with the added bonus of not being surrounded by crumbling urban decay and litter-strewn streets as I drive. So I guess that means my second favorite part about living here is how clean it is!

Lexington was ranked 10th cleanest city in the world for a reason. It's also something I really like about Lexington.

Agreed. Museum, and perhaps a Gameworks and/or more indoor acitivities to placate us during the 6 months of crappy weather.

I was the same way for the first two years. I used to love the less congested roads (coming from a large city's 2 hour commute). HOWEVER, now I cannot stand Lexington drivers! I almost got hit twice yesterday These people just can't drive.

What makes Lexington 'traffic' so unbearable to me is how long the red lights hold even if there is NO traffic. Most places will have a 30 second green light for a main road with a 10 second red light to allow the couple of cars on a side road to safely turn onto or cross the main road. In Lexington the main roads have HUGE green light cycles (2 minutes+) that causes traffic to really pile up on the side roads. I have timed the red lights at Man O War for Clays Mill & Grassy Creek Dr a 2 minutes 30 seconds even if there is no traffic on MOW.

BTW, I created a facebook group for Central KY residents to express their feelings about Lexington's roads. Just get on fb and search for "Whoever designed Lexington's roads is a freaking idiot!!"
