Talking Need info on the Winchester/Stanton and surrounding areas

We are an early 40's Christian couple and we will be moving into the Winchester/Stanton area the end of April. My husband will be working at L3 Communications in Avon, Ky and I will be attending the Kentucky Moutain Bible College in Vancleve. We will be looking to rent a place, if possible, in the Stanton area or close to it, which is approx. halfway between the two as far as I can tell. We are ok with the country as long we can find a nice place. We will looking for a 3 bd. large ranch or two story home with a little bit of land TO RENT at first. Nothing too fancy just something clean, in decent condition, in a nice area. I would appreciate any information you can give me along those lines. Especially the areas to stay away from. Thank you much in advance to all those who reply. God BLess

Stanton is in Powell County. Also, there's Clay City. But Stantion is more south and more-so halfway located between Avon (Which is in Lexington-Fayette and Vancleve in Breathitt County). Stanton is located directly off the Mountain Parkway, which is essentialy a State Turnpike / Similiar to an interstate so you will have good access to Lexington via I-64 and Vancleve via KY-15 from Campton, Ky. There are plenty of rural country areas that should be cheap and probably many vacant. The local paper there, I think, is "The Clay City Times". Call them, or research online to see classfieds. Try local realty sites online as well. Good luck! Powell County is a very naturally beautiful area of the state as it is home to Natural Bridge State Resort Park and the Red River Gorge National Geological Area!

You're looking at very rural areas. Rents will be cheaper than your upper limit and there aren't really "bad areas." Unless something obviously looks amiss (a prison next door, Sheriff's deputies on every corner, etc.) you should be fine.

It's really good to know that there are no "bad areas." That's the kind of information I really needed in my search for a rental. We have been looking at the real estate in the area and were surprised how inexpensive it is. Thank you so much for the info. God Bless, KK

Avoid Winchester. Period. Do an advanced search here on C-D and you'll see why.

I am a current L3 employee looking to transfer to The same facility your husband is going to work at in Avon. Can you give me any information on this job? I am an aircraft mechanic and was planning on transfering there this fall but Im hearing that L3 might have lost the contract??? I am really looking forward to transfering and I visited the area and really like it. Cave Run Lake is near there and the Daniel Boone National Forest is close. Good luck finding a place, I've been monitoring www.realtor.com and have found several nice places within my budget.

Why so much hate toward Winchester? All towns have a "bad area." Winchester has plenty of nice areas to live. As I mentioned before mainly on the SW side of town.

My husband says that the work will still be there at Avon only Lockheed Martin may be signing your paychecks to do the work. He said that the office employess will be the only ones really effected from the contact lose, which is still in arbitration.
My husband said you may contact him at Snaith1@aol.com , he is going in as a structures mechanic.
Good luck to you - God Bless, GG
