What streets? There are some nice areas but they are close to an area of apartments that has a heavy hispanic population. This in and of itself is not bad but this population is a lower socio-economic group and there are typical issues that come with that. I would make sure it is not close to Alexandria Drive.

Garden Springs Drive
My best friend used to live on Garden Springs Drive in Lexington. It is a pretty good area of Lexington (considering I hate cities!). The neighborhood is within 5 minutes of downtown Lexington, about 1 minute from New Circle Road (Circle 4) (which circles the entire city) and is behind a small mall off Harrodsburg Road. You will probably be fine looking in that area of town. Alexandria drive is a bit "rougher". My 60 year old mother also lives about two blocks from there and feels safe, even though she is single and in poor physical health.
Stay clear of most anything towards downtown, the numbered streets (like 5th or 6th, or Race Street for sure!), stay away from the "Winburn" area of town, Georgetown Street, Nicholasville Road is a humdinger for really bad traffic jams day and night (so this leaves out commuting to Nicholasville), UNLESS you want to be stuck in rush hour traffic in the morning AND at night every day of the week!
Hope any of this information helps.

Wow!!!!
Wow, that comment on Hispanics just really made me not want to move to Kentucky!! No one here would even think about saying something so racist and disgusting. I am appauled really! I really had my heart set on Ky but if people think like you I might just think twice.

While I hate to respond... but if you don't think racists live in YOUR state, you are an ostrich with your head in the sand! Kentucky (especially the urban areas) is no more racist than any other state out there.
I don't believe that statement was meant racist, as I know the area she's speaking of, AND it is definitely a scummy, loud, dirty neighborhood that is crime ridden and at the same time, has a very high concentration of hispanic people. I WILL RE-ITERATE this in NO WAY means I think hispanics are bad, I am merely agreeing THAT NEIGHBORHOOD, in Lexington, is disgusting and has a higher percentage of one race vs. other races. Nuff' said.

As a fellow New Yorker, I paused too, but I always heard that the difference between the south and north is that in the North people tend to hide what they are thinking about different races, and in the south, you know where you stand with people, because they are more open. This is something I heard from an African American. In LexingtonGal's defense, I have a feeling that she is talking about a neighborhood with crime due to a low socioeconomic population who just happens to be Hispanic. I am sure there are Hispanic professors at the Univ and Hispanic doctors at the hospital, but those aren't the ones she was talking about. She has been so helpful here, so I am going to give her the benefit of the doubt. Real racists tend to not discuss race out in the open.

She clearly said "this in and of itself is not bad" but that this particular group had a lower socioeconomic status/higher crime area than some other areas. It was a direct, honest, factual response to a direct question. There are many such neighborhoods with whites too, as well as other races. It's a fact.
A "racist" comment would have been something to the effect of "the area is filled with a hispanic population so you want to stay away from it!" There is a big difference.
I do wish people wouldn't get so bent out of shape so easily about this kind of thing. It would be a lot easier to have conversations.

Yes, that is exactly what I meant. I am sorry if it was taken as derogatory towards an entire population. It never entered my mind that it would be taken as such. That was not my intent at all. I apologize if that was what how it came across.

Sorry
I am sorry that i took it that way. I guess being from NY you dear a lot of things about the people who live more south as being openly racist. Sorry. I shouldn't have gotten so mad!

In this area, I've lived on Old Nassau Rd, Georgian Way and Alexandria Dr (the side closer to Harrodsburg Rd). I thought it was a great area to live in. I felt very safe and never had a problem while I was there. I do agree that the closer you get to Versailles Rd on Alexandria, it does get a little rough, but not as bad as it would be in some places in Lex.
